  1. Hi I also work as an NHS Administrator for a PCT, and I am looking to return in January. Having spoken to my line manager, she is looking at a very slow phased return to work for me, 2 days a week, couple of hours a day, with a day off in between. I asked about pay (as I had the same concerns as you), and she said I will be paid my normal hours (13.5). It will have been 13 weeks since my SAH if I return as planned. The only thing I can suggest is that you try Citizen's Advice Bureau for advice. I have used them in the past and find them very helpful. It may be that you will need to negoitiate directly with your employer if there is no legislation in place that covers this. All the best Regards Sam x Hope all goes well
  2. Hi Guys Just to update you - I went to see my GP on Tues, and when I told him what the Consultant had recommended (12 weeks off), he said he couldn't see why he had said I needed that long and that he couldn't see what benefit sitting at home for all that time would do!!!!!!! Grrrrr!! He has given me another note for 4 weeks, but this is only because I am due another angio to check everything is ok. He went on to say that I probably won't need another note after this one, as I would already have had 9 weeks off! He made me feel like I was a complete fraud and just trying to hang it out. He appeared to have no understanding of the kind of fatigue I am experiencing or that the time scale suggested for me was comparatively short by all accounts! I also had to remind him to check my blood pressure before shoving me out the door! Can't wait for the next appointment!!!! Sam x
  3. Sorry Diane, must have been writing my post at the time you were writing your 2nd! Still sending best wishes Sam x
  4. Hi Diane Glad Mark's angio went ok, I know I found it more than a little uncomfortable at the time! I am one of the 'no fault found' bunch (!) so I know how frustrating it can be not to get any answers about causes, future recommendations etc. I don't know any specifics regarding the reabsorbtion of the blood - probably best to ask Mark's consultant, however you may well get told it's an individual thing, (seems the standard answer to so many things regarding SAH). Hope Mark is feeling a little more comfortable soon, thinking of you both, Sam x
  5. Hi Dianne Marks 'progress' sounds about right, mine followed a similar pattern but I was only in for a week. It's been a major life event for you both and you are still trying to come to terms with it, so your emotions are likely to be all over the place for a while yet. It has probably turned your world upside down, and everything you thought was predictable in life you are now calling in to question. It will have overshadowed your fantastic achievement of qualifying, and taken some of the 'shine' off it for you personally. Don't be too hard on yourself and try not to over analyse your moods right now. You can feel awefully low when your are exhausted yourself so try and get rest as and when you need it. It helps to share, and there is a lot of support from fantastic people on this site as well as friends/family/colleagues. Thinking of you and wishing you all the very best. Sam xx
  6. Thanks for all the info guys, really appreciate your imput x At least I don't feel as 'victimised' as I thought!! I may well see if I can get a home visit as, even with an appointment, they're normally running at least an hour behind! Thanks again and all the best, Sam x
  7. OK guys, many thanks for your posts. I hear what you're saying, however it still doesn't seem right, grrr! I have never had more than a week off sick from work in my life, so am finding this stuff really frustrating. I hate going to my GP, and avoid it unless absolutely necessary as you're not able to pre-book an appointment, but have to ring up on the morning to make an appointment for that morning. This makes it really difficult to arrange a lift at such short notice (I live rurally, and the surgery is approx 6 miles away). Cheers, Sam xx
  8. Hi All I am absolutely furious with my GP and would like to find out what others have experienced regarding their sick notes. I am 5 weeks on from my SAH, and upon discharge from hospital, my Consultant advised a minimum of 12 weeks off work (he also said if I needed another 12 weeks after that, I should take it). My Husband took my discharge letter to my GP in week 2 as I didn't feel up to a visit and didn't feel the need to see a GP. After explaining the Consultant's advice to the Receptionist, my Husband was given a sick note signing me off for 4 weeks. I wasn't happy, but didn't have the energy to pursue it so let it run. I am now due the renewal note, and upon phoning the surgery, have been told the GP won't do another note without seeing me. As I am unable to drive due to DVLA restrictions, and the fact that I don't feel I need to see the GP for any problems, I am furious that I am being put under this stress. Surely, if an 'expert' advises 12 weeks off, the GP should just follow that guidence. I am not trying to 'hang it out' and my workplace are totally accepting of the said timescale. Why is my GP making it so difficult for me?? Advise appreciated! Sam
  9. Hi Ali Hope you managed to get some rest and are feeling a little better. Thoughts are with you and your Husband x I hope you are able to gain some comfort from the support that's available from everyone on this site, there is always someone to talk too whenever you need it. All the best Sam x
  10. Hi All That'll be me! Bit of a newbie, so not much to contribute as yet! Nice to find fellow members with the same problem - main gripe so far has been lack of info about this type of SAH. All the best Sam x
  11. Thanks all for such a warm welcome! I look forward to getting to know you all a little better as time goes on. All the very best, Sam x
  12. Hi I only had my SAH 2 and a half weeks ago and am probably still in a bit of shock. Luckily, I was rehearsing with my choir, actually in a hospital, at the time the SAH occured!I was whizzed thru A&E, had a CT scan and was transferred to the QE Hospital within hours. Fortunately I have had no "damage", and didn't need any teatment as it wasn't caused by an annurism or similar. However, this is the problem: I can find very little info reguarding this kind of SAH, all the info seems to relate to SAH caused by annurisms/vessel damage. The Consultant has not given me any advice relating to recovery, literally saying go home and rest, and just get on with your life. I am still coming to terms with the fact that I could have died or been left paralysed, and don't really know what I'm supposed to do to 'take it easy'. I am very lucky to have no pain or discomfort, but I am spending a lot of time bursting into tears and feeling a bit lost. Anyone with a similar experience??
