  2. Hi Juliette Yes even nearly 5 years on the dreaded fatigue still kicks in if I overdo it but if you're at all worried it is best to check with your G.P.

  4. Hi Karen I also am having a bad few weeks and am definitely putting it down to the changeable weather we are having.
  5. Hi Laura Hope your Doctor forwards you to a Consultant so you can get some proper answers and the correct treatment.
  6. Hi Janet Welcome to the site, I agree with Sami you should get family and friends to visit the site then they'll know that you are still really early on recovery wise. Sorry you had such a bad time at the A & E, I think a fair few have had similar experiences with our "local" hospitals as the others have already said do think about pursuing further action if necessary the response you received is really inadequate. Good luck with your recovery and look forward to hearing more from you.
  7. Hi all not been around much lately life has been busy and new working hours are not really suiting me have a feeling me and my job may be parting company soon. I have now completed 2 days of my pain management programme (pmp) very hard going lots of information to take on board and loads of homework because its only one full day a week for 5 weeks. The pmp exercises are easy to do but they make us spend an hour in the gym. We have talks from a Psychologist every week and a different specialist pops in each week. We had a Pain Consultant in last week who prescribed reducing pain relief when possible for better effect when the pain is worse. The sessions I find most useful are similar to meditation but we are not being taught how to ignore the pain but how to acknowledge it properly and move on from it by completing various breathing exercises and performing a full body scan that last about 40 minutes so far have managed to stay awake......as snoring not allowed Will post a bit more when the course finishes and if anyone would like a copy of the pmp exercises would be happy to photocopy it and pass it on......when I find it left at the hospital last week
  8. Hi Riane Belated welcome to the site so glad you're finding it useful. You have already been given lots of good advice so all I will say it take it day as it comes be kind to yourself and try to listen to your body and rest when you need to. Wishing you all the best for your recovery. Janet
  9. Great news that Tina is doing so well.
  10. Hi Carolyn I'm nearly five years down the line now and always felt that emotionally if not physically I had managed to deal with what happened to me. I was referred by work for Counselling earlier this year because of the stress caused by my daughters Bi-Polar Disorder, she had a major incident in January this year which was her second one in less than 12 months. Having to deal with the fall-out caused me some major issues, lack of sleep, visiting and having to sort out her total disregard of important legal and financial issues concerning her and her son. The counselling sessions were a real eye opener and perhaps one of the biggest things to come out of it was the fact that after listening to me open up about my life and the impact Claire's illness was having on me she told me that I was still in "shock" from my SAH. I had six sessions in total spread over about 8 weeks and I found it very useful. I think in spite of trying to think positively about the limitation in my new lifestyle I do suffer from mild bouts of depression and obviously with Claire's illness to factor in I know that in future I may need more counselling in order to cope. I sincerely hope that you get accepted for help with your medical costs as worrying about affording the medication you need is an additional worry you could do without.
  11. I'm the same John tiredness/fatigue has a nasty habit of slowing you down when you least expect it. I love having 2 days off mid-week but my new hours are really taking there toll the only way I cope is a caffeine injection......Costa coffee loves me
  12. Hi Theresa I think it depends on where the Anuerysms are as to how much hair needs to be shaved. I know mine was just a small amount and the scar is not visible at all as it is hidden in the hairline. As with any surgery the actual site will be painful and numb for quite some time as for other side effects I don't know as mine was an emergency due to SAH so my recovery was from both. Time off work is a hard one as only you will know when you're ready to return.
  13. That rules me out as well Jess
  14. Hi Bill Welcome and look forward to hearing more about you.
  15. Tracy with regards to the jaw pain I was also clipped and were they had to cut through the jaw muscle during surgery it did cause a lot of pain in the first few months thankfully its now only now and again I get a dull ache in my jaw now. I got told that chewing gum would loosen the muscles not much of a chewing gum person but gave it a go and it did help a bit.
  16. Hi Tracy Welcome to the site I'm sure you find all the help and support you need on here. Look forward to hearing more from you.
  17. Hi Kate Welcome the panic attacks and anxiety does get better with time. I can't help you with the angiogram as haven't had to have one since straight after my SAH and don't really remember much about it. As Sally has already said there are lots of members who have had them who I'm sure will be able to set your mind at rest. Good luck for Wednesday and look forward to hearing more from you.
  18. Hi Michelle the Champix would have worked if I had continued taking it but life intervened with shed loads of stress and the evil weed became necessary. It was Zyban previously but caused a lot of problems so was withdrawn. Champix is good as you build up the dose gradually eventually getting to a point were the ciggies taste awful.
  19. Hi I tried one of these machines a couple of years ago and found it made me feel sick and dizzy and very wobbly. Certainly would not go near one again.
  20. Hi Maggie I have suffered with severe nerve pain since my SAH in November 2006. My Nuerosurgeon told me it is most likely a trapped nerve but is unable to investigate it further as apparently my clips are not MRI compatible. I take a low dose of anti-depressants which works on nerve pain but find that the pain is worse when the weather is at extremes too hot/cold and generally have to increase the dosage. After living with the pain for over 4 years I finally got referred to a pain management clinic and attended for an assessment in March. I have been accepted and start a course in July that is every Monday for 5 weeks. I'm hoping that I will be learnt techniques for coping with the pain as well as relaxation techniques to help with the anxiety caused by the pain. I will let everyone know how the course goes once I've completed it.
  21. Hi Hazel Welcome to the site as the others have already said it is important to listen to your body and rest as much as you can. Rushing back to work too quickly can make your recovery a lot slower. It sounds like you have a lot of sensible people around who are trying to get you to take things slowly try to increase the hours you work gradually as if you become overtired the fatigue will kick in. Let us know how you get on.
  22. Hi Melissa Welcome to the site I hope you find the support you need as the others have already said you've been through such a lot and at such a young age. Look forward to hearing how you get on.
  23. Pain Management Programme For those of you who are not aware I have suffered with extreme nerve pain constantly since my SAH/Craniotomy. Despite being referred back to my Neurosurgeon at least 3 times it was only on my last visit to him about the 3 year mark that he admitted that the pain is most likely being caused by a trapped nerve and that the clip he has fitted is not compatible with MRI so there is no way of telling if this is the case so he basically told me to learn to live with it. Not being aware that the Walton Centre has one of the best Pain Management Clinics in the world I was not offered a referral by my Neurosurgeon, it was quite by accident that I found out about the courses run by the Pain Management Centre. So the beginning of last year I got my G.P to send a referral but it was addressed wrongly and sent to my Nuero team who would not forward it to the right department. Back to the G.P in July giving them the right mailing direction it took til Xmas before they contacted my G.P and sent information through for me look at. I finally heard off them last week and had an Assessment day today. I have been accepted onto a five day programme which is 1 day a week for 5 weeks and should take place July/August. The assessment involved lots of form filling with repetitive questions I then got assessed by the Team a Consultant in Pain, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist and Nueropsychologist. Apparently my case is very unusual as they normally treat most people for back/neck pain and connected problems. I was completely honest about not really needing physiotherapy as I am quite fit and mobile but stressed the fact that psychologically I need to learn better coping techniques and relaxation methods as well as learning to manage my pain and the anxiety it can still cause. I will update everyone once I have completed the course and let you know if it improves the quality of my life. Oops forgot the important bit the goals of the programme:- to increase activity levels using pacing methods to learn more about the nature of pain and its effects to reduce my dependence on other people.....Morris might be glad of this one to reduce my dependence on medication.......please to reduce the distress caused by pain
  24. Hi Juliette A warm welcome to BTG its still early days for you and the anxiety you feel is natural it does get better with time. I hope you find the site useful and any questions just ask there is always plenty of people to support you on here. Look forward to hearing more from you.
