  1. My apologies for taking so long to get this on here - we had one or two delays in the process! I have posted a summary of the results below. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like any further information on what we found or have any questions about the results. I would like to take this chance to thank anybody who completed the study, or expressed interest in taking part! Background: Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a type of anxiety after a traumatic event, and can include experiencing flashbacks of the event. However, little research has considered how PTSD occurs after brain injury. Current study: Metacognitions are “thinking about thinking”. They are knowledge and awareness related to an individual’s own thinking. This study examined whether metacognitions were related with posttraumatic stress symptoms in individuals who had sustained a brain injury. Participants who had a traumatic brain injury (47) or subarachnoid haemorrhage (93) took part in the study by completing questionnaires. Results: The results showed that metacognitions were related to individuals’ posttraumatic stress symptoms. Individuals who had more negative metacognitions (e.g., believing that worrying is dangerous) and more beliefs about the need to control their thoughts (e.g., believing that not controlling thoughts is a sign of weakness) were more likely to have increased severity of posttraumatic stress symptoms. Conclusion: The results support that metacognitions are related to developing PTSD after brain injury. These results help our understanding of how PTSD develops after a brain injury.
  2. Hi Nic, Thnk you for your interest! Unfortunately we do need people to be over 4 weeks since injury (and under 5 years.) My sincerest apologies. If you would like to complete the survey after you reach 4 weeks then please feel free.
  3. Hi everyone, I would just like to thank everyone again who has taken part in this study. We have had an AMAZING response from this site alone. So much so that we are stopping recruitment at the end of Feb. SO if anyone would like to take part that hasn't had chance yet then I just wanted to make you aware that from March onwards we will be closing the link - although we have already had a great response, every single participant helps us. We are looking for individuals who have had a subarachnoid haemorrhage in the last 5 years to complete our survey online. It takes about 30 minutes to complete and any help is greatly appreciated! The link to the study is here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/lancasterPTSD More information about the study can be found here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/infosheet Thank you again! As soon as we have finished writing up the study I will make sure I place a summary on here.
  4. Thanks Lynne! Every answer helps us. Posting a summary on here will be no problem whatsoever...I think it's the least I can do after all the help members on here have given us. As soon as we finish recruiting (hopefully in jan) and get it written up, I'll make sure a summary gets on here.
  5. Thank you to everyone who has taken part - the response from this site alone has been amazing, and because of it we are very close to having enough participants. The results are looking very promising at the moment, so thank you to each and every one of you. Just to let you know, if you want a summary of the results from the study, once we finish it, if you message me i can sort this out for you. We are still recruiting, so if you think anyone you know would be interested, please pass this info on! Thank you everyone!
  6. I just wanted to thank everyone again who has expressed an interest in our study and to those who have completed it. Every single response is valuable. Due to the fantastic response we are very near our target...so if anyone knows anyone else who may wish to complete it then please let them know! Thank you all again!!!
  7. Hi Lin-lin, Well if you continue to have problems then please let me know and I will contact the site admins to have a look! Oh and my name is Ian. ? My middle name is James.
  8. Hi Lin-Lin, Thank you for trying! There could be a problem with the site. Does it let you answer any questions?
  9. Hi everyone! Thank you to everyone who has expressed interest in this study - whether you have completed the study or not! The response has been great, but we still need more, so if anyone else fancies it please take a look. I thought I'd just respond to the comments about it bringing back some memories. The questionnaires are not meant to cause upset, although inevitably they will trigger memories, and perhaps related emotions. I hope these have not been distressing for those who have completed it? If you would perhaps like to contact me to discuss it then by all means do so - my contact details on are the link above (the one for more info) - my first name is Ian and I am happy to discuss things with anyone. Alternatively, there are details on this link for other options to discuss things with other people. Thank you again for completing it - every person that completes it counts and contributes to this research. I can't really thank you enough for taking part!
  10. I am a trainee clinical psychologist from Lancaster University and I am sending out a big plea for help for this research study! We are looking for individuals who have had a subarachnoid haemorrhage in the last 5 years to complete our survey online. It takes about 30 minutes to complete and any help is greatly appreciated! We are struggling for numbers so any help would be great! The study is looking at your responses to the subarachnoid haemorrhage and we are hoping to help improve psychological research and therapy in this area. The study has been approved by Lancaster University’s Ethics Committee. If you have any questions or want more information, please don't hesitate to contact me. The link to the study is here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/lancasterPTSD More information about the study can be found here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/infosheet Thank you for taking the time to read this post - it has been approved by Karen Hyder.
