  1. I know this is an old thread, but I just found it and have been interested to read the variety of symptoms experienced by different people. My symptoms were pretty different from most described above, so perhaps I should describe them here for the record. It was April 29, 2019. My wife and I were in Matera, Italy where we had been traveling for about 10 days. We were scheduled to fly from Bari to Catania in Sicily the next day for a further two-week tour. I woke up in our rented apartment feeling normal, but after a cup or two of expresso, I began to have vision problems typical of an ocular migraine, i.e. weird flashing geometric patterns. I lay down for a while to see if it would go away, and that is the last thing I remember. My wife said I complained of headache, but I don't remember that. She managed to get us packed up and out of the apartment and she drove the rental car back to Bari to the hotel where we had reserved a room near the airport. By that time I was no longer responsive. The hotel staff took me to the main Bari hospital, and I was soon transferred to the neurointensive care unit of the University of Bari hospital. I was in a deep coma for nine days. My son and daughter fly over from the U.S. to support their mother as they expected to be saying goodbye to me. But miraculously I slowly came out of the coma and began to improve. Fortunately my wife had purchased a one-year emergency medical evacuation policy which covered a private flight back to Virginia with pilot, co-pilot, M.D., R.N., and medical technician in a small Learjet, on May 18. I then had 30 days in hospital rehabilitation, eventually making a complete recovery. By September, 2019, I was back to five-mile hikes in the mountains and have been essentially normal since. By the way, I was 77 when it happened, so I'm now 80.
  2. So sorry to hear about your headaches. Have you tried exercise? I don't mean anything too vigorous, but a gentle walk ever day might help. But perhaps you already do this... I am pleased to report that the head pain I reported when starting this thread has largely disappeared. I suspect it was partly due to allergy to the heavy pollen fall we experienced last Spring.
  3. Thanks for responding. I was pleased to learn that it's not likely a tumor. My head pain is pretty mild and I can live with it. May try PT.
  4. Occipital Neuralgia was the M.D.'s diagnosis. Not much to be done about it except NSAIDs and possibly physical therapy. It's probably caused by arthritis in my neck.
  5. Thanks for responding, Clare and Tina. Funny thing is, I don't recall any headaches at the time of the event, but my wife said I did complain of headache. And I didn't have any significant headaches during recovery.
  6. My SAH occurred on 4/29/2019 when I was 77 years old. I made an essentially complete recovery and resumed all normal activities. Now, three years later, I'm having pain in my head and wonder if this is some new problem, or a delayed symptom of the SAH. Has anyone else experienced similar symptoms?
  7. I am a new member in the USA but perhaps my experience could be informative. I had my PSAH on April 29 while traveling in Italy and returned to the USA on 18 May. When released from the hospital on 19 June I was told that by state law I could not drive until six months after the event. But about 3 months after a therapist told me I was perfectly fit to drive. She asked if I had been contacted by our state DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles), and the answer was a truthful "no". So I have been driving ever since in all types of traffic with no issues at all.
