Everyone in this thread is so very helpful and friendly - what a boon to anyone suffering from dealing with the DVLA! My husband has quadrantanopia from a stroke 8 years ago and for the past two years, we’ve been trying to get his licence reinstated.
We’ve submitted all sorts of information to them but have been doing this ‘blind’ if you’ll forgive the pun, as this process was started during the pandemic and we waited at least three months for a reply from the DVLA each time, only to be we hadn’t sent the correct or sufficient medical supporting evidence.
However, at no point did they tell us what we hadn’t sent and what they needed next and getting through on the phone was impossible. Finally, we got a letter just before Christmas saying that we should have sent either evidence hat he meets the medical visual standards (which they keep telling us he doesn't) or supporting evidence to prove he meets the criteria for an exceptional case, which was the first we’d heard of it.
Now I know what I’m up against, we can get the relevant info together. Criterion No. 7 is a bit of a stumbling block, but hopefully our GP will help. He doesn’t have any problem day to day regardless of his impaired visual field and has 20/20 visual acuity.
Thank you all so much for being so willing to share information here - it’s been so helpful and reassuring!
