  1. Hi coming up 6 years since SAH. I like the person I have become. I am different and that's not a bad thing. All my family have noticed a change, some like it and others have to accept it. Life has changed a lot in the last few years. take care Therese
  2. Hi Brenda glad to everything is well. Several doctors missed what was wrong with me and I was sent home (not james cook hospital). Lay there for 5 days not aware of anything GP finally sent me to Darlington where I had a scan and then was transferred to Middlesborough General. That was 5 years ago. Anyway good luck to your sister Take care Therese
  3. Hi looks like I am the odd one out. 5 years post SAH and only problem sleeping is that I never get enough. I was always a good sleeper but now I am even better. I sleep much sounder. I used to have very vivid dreams but since SAH very rarely dream. Take care Therese
  4. Hi Smoked about 30 a day, liked to go to bed late, worked all the time and was very stressed. Had always suffered from headaches and had no problems with blood pressure except when pregnant. I did not relax at all and had no social life as such. Also over-weight. I now don't smoke and I make time to relax and enjoy myself. What age was everyone? Mine happened exactly 1 week after I was 43. Take care Therese
  5. Hi Brenda Just read your message. I had recoiling done about 3 months after the original coiling and then almost 5 years later I have had one aneurysm ‘glued’ and may have to have the second one done later. I notice from your details that you give the county you live in as Cleveland, does your sister also live there and if so is she having it done in the James Cook? I had the original coilings done in Middlesbrough General and the gluing done at the James Cook. All I can tell you is about my experience. I felt not much different after having either the second coiling or the gluing done. I think perhaps I was more tired after the gluing. One month after I had the second coiling done I moved house and went back to work a couple of months later. I returned to work in stages which I felt was a good idea. After the gluing I returned to work a couple of days a week and from next week will go back every day but on fewer hours (gluing done 22nd November 2006 returned to work 2nd Jan 2007). The doctor at the hospital told me that 3 months is the usual period for returning to work but he was happy for me to do it in stages. Have had to inform DVLA and am now awaiting their verdict on my driving. When I got out of hospital after gluing I did take it easy and always went out with someone else for the first couple of weeks. I have received no after care as such just a follow up appointment, the support I receive, and for which I am grateful, is from my family and friends. Of course this website is grate too for useful information and friendly chat. I hope this helps, if you ask anything please do, you can always send a private message if you like. Hope all goes well for your sister. Regards Thérèse
  6. Hi I agree with what Karen says. When I had my SAH I didn’t go back for eight months and then only on a phased return. However, in that eight months I had another set of coiling done, so if you count the time from the second coiling I went back after about three months. I worked for a couple of months at a couple of hours a week but then I handed in my notice. I was then without a job for ten months. When I did get my next job I felt really ready for it. After my gluing in November 2006 I was told that it should be at least three months before I should go back to work. However, I have already, after five weeks, gone back on a phased return, the doctor is happy for me to do this. This was done in consultation with my local GP. The doctor, at the hospital, this week said that I should take my time and not rush things as it is not worth it. I think this is true. I just find it difficult to be at home on my own and find the company of people at work is really enjoyable. Take care, Thérèse
  7. Hi Jackie Had my SAH in Jan 2002, had my licence taken away and did not drive for three years. I lost the sight completely in my left eye which added to my worries about driving. When I started driving again I called a driving school and explained the situation, the instructor was great and after one time out with him I felt able to cope on the small journeys that I needed to make. I did not drive in the dark or on motorways. However, after a change in jobs the distance I needed to travel increased by about five times. I had to get my husband to take me out along the route I was to travel and this worked. Difficulty arose again with the dark nights and for sometime I got the bus to work but this meant a very long day. In an evening my husband sat in with me as I went along the route to work and back in the dark, getting used to it again. It is not easy but I have managed. Before my SAH I was never a great driver and only went to work and back really, but I will be happy if I can continue to do this. Good luck with the driving Take care Therese
  8. Hi all Thank you so much for your kind words and thoughts. I am now at home recovering from the surgery. I have been told I can go back to work in about eight weeks. This time I have had the aneurisms 'glued' with onyx. Wasn't told a great deal about it, have had a little look on the internet about it but not really up to looking further at the moment. Once again thanks for your good wishes Take care Therese
  9. Hi I live in County Durhan but will have the procedure done at the James Cook Hospital in Cleveland. I am surprised at how quick the surgery is taking place as it has taken almost 2 years to get the angio done even though they knew that there was a problem. The way I am looking at it is that it needs to be done and once its done hopefully this time it will never need done again. Thanks for all your positive thoughts. I will try to let you know how everything has gone as soon as possible. Thanks again Therese
  10. Hi about a month ago I had an angiogram and was told I would see the consultant at his clinic to discuss the results. I already knew that there was a problem they just want the angio to see how they were going to tackle it. I got my appointment at the clinic for Jan. and so decided that I could forget about everything until then. Thursday I got a cal from the hospital to say I was to go in for an embolism this Wednesday 22nd what a shock. I have no idea how they are going to do this or anthing. This is the third time they will have carried out a procedure, the last twice was done through coiling. Just hope now that there is a bed available when I ring on Tuesday. Thanks for letting me share this. Take care Therese
  11. Hi Karen thanks very much. I really enjoyed our chat and I can't wait until Friday to do it all again. Take care Therese
  12. Hi thanks for your replies. I work in adult education teaching Literacy and Numeracy. I have taught for this for over ten years now and this is my first full time job. It is also further from home than I would have liked, so it means that I have to drive further, soon I will travel on the bus as I can't see in the dark. I must admit I love my job and the people that I meet. Since my heamorrhage I have completed two Level 4 course to gain specialist qualifications in Literacy and Numeracy. This has meant two years at college once a week but I have enjoyed it. I took up greeting card marking to give me something to do to releax and I find it very useful. I worry about everything but find I am actually a much more relaxed person since my illness. Anyway take care and hopefully speak to you soon Regards Therese

    Hi

Hi my name is Therese and I had my brain haemorrhage in January 2002. It was fixed with coiling and then more coiling was done in June 2002. I was not checked again until September 2004 then an angi was arranged for Jan 2005 (that could not take place because of another illness that I suffer from). Another was arranged for Dec 2005 but the hospital cancelled at the last moment. I have just got my new appointment for the 19th Oct. I know that the coiling has to be either redone or there was mention this time of clipping. I actually had two aneurysms, one ruptured and both need redoing. I get headaches but I would say they are no worse than I used to get before, but I do get tired. I was left without the sight in my left eye which I find very difficult to adjust to but I think my biggest thing is how alone I feel and how frightened. I do work full time which keeps my mind occupied and I enjoy my work. I am alos married and have two grown up children and a grandchild. Take care Regards Therese
