Night Sweats and Sleeping Problems

Hi Deb, I had vivid colorful (neon) dreams for a couple of months after my NASAH. Very detailed and amazing bright colour. I also had some scary dreams of falling about 4 months after the event. At the same time I had the sensation of falling when I was awake too. I would be sitting on the couch awake and suddenly feel like I was falling, only for a few seconds.

Also around that time I felt like I was walking on a boat and that lasted for at least 2 months. I only actually fell a couple of times. Not tripping, just falling for no apparent reason. I'm more steady now, not as dizzy, and I don't dream of falling anymore (either awake or when I'm asleep). I would also sometimes feel the floor coming up toward me, again only for seconds. That's not happening anymore either and I'm now at almost 6 months since the event.

I agree with Vivien. Your sense of smell may just be off. My sense of hearing was very strange for awhile, 2 months or so. Everything was really loud. I could hear the plates touching each other in the cupboards.

Deb my GP did give me temaze 10mg for sleep, i had them about three weeks after the SAH so about three weeks before MRI. When i went back to Charlies to see neruo they said if they are working it was fine, so ask your GP to phone them in Charlies if you are still suffering x

Thanks again all for the input. Went to my first stroke support group meeting this afternoon, and the guest speaker was a clinical psychologist. It was absolutely brilliant..lots of good information and things I can actually use. And lots about how the limbic system and our sleep cycles work. Too much to write about tonight though...the 2 hour meeting just about did me in!

Wow! I wish I'd found this thread sooner.Lots of interesting facts that I wasn't aware of. I don't have a problem actually getting to sleep, it's staying asleep that I have issues with.It doesn't matter if I go to bed early or late, I still wake and get up between 5 & 6 am( I can't get back to sleep)it's as though my brain has woken up and won't switch off. I waken many times through the night and have night sweats 3 or 4 nights a week..I think my body thermostat is in need of repair.

My left hand always feels cold even when it isn't if you know what I mean?I am menopausal, take meds for high blood & anti seizure meds. Sorry for moaning, I used to blame everything on SAH i.e., tiredness, forgetfulnes, irritability etc, etc, Now I know that in fact it could be med side effects, menopause, or just getting older! , If anyone has any tips, ideas or thoughts on the above, I would love to read them.

Hello! I am new to BTG but have been reading posts I have found helpful so have signed up :O)

I had a SAH just over three weeks ago and I was one of the lucky ones and am up and about with no visible complications. It's the invisible effects that are a concern for me. I was having sweats before the surgery as I had stopped taking HRT and was enduring menopausal sweats which were becoming less frequent.

However since coming off the Nimodipine tablets I am suffering constant sweats, not just at night time but during the day as well and it's getting me down. I also feel light headed and I can't get to sleep and when I do I wake every couple of hours. The sweating and lack of sleep is becoming an issue and I feel I am going downhill again.

Is severe sweating normal after a SAH and if so, how long will it continue? I feel my GP won't know anything about this if II ask him and I would rather not take any more meds. I know sage is good for sweating but I would rather know the cause than treat the symptoms.

I would be grateful for some guidance from others who understand what I am going through as all my friends take one look at me and think I am recovered/fine/able to do everything I did before the surgery... It's what they can't see that matters.

Many thanks! x

Hi Purple,

Always see Doc as worrying and stress can do us no good, tell him how you feel rather than worry over it.  The only sweats I had where in my change and they were horrid.  Good luck and get help. Perhaps another person can throw light on this xxx Good luck  xx

Hi

Really feel you should have a chat with either your Gp or a nurse specialist at the hospital you were treated. Sweats can be caused by many things so best to get it checked out

I didn't suffer any more or less sweats after my bleed. I still suffer now and think it is all part of the dreaded menopause.

Clare xx
