Gary
Hi All I have recently been diagnosed with a perimesencephalic SAH. I was in the gym and had a thunderclap headache, then had 4 more episodes but all under exertion. At the same time I had a back ache and pain between my shoulder blades, assuming I had pulled a muscle. Wasn’t a massive pain, but definitely there. 2x CT scans, one MRI (all on head) and a LP, conclusion was the peri-SAH. Complained of back pain with some neck pain before the LP and told to go back if no better. The initial pain in back and thunderclap was 7 weeks ago now and the back is getting worse and worse. Sharp pain right on the spine between the shoulder blades and occasional neck pain/mild spasm almost. Doctor says could be unrelated but seems to think that these two issues could be related as happened same time. Has anyone else experienced any back problems like this with their condition? Back to hospital tomorrow and hopefully will have an MRI on the back but who knows. Many thanks for reading Gary
Tina
Hi Gary A very warm welcome to BTG So sorry you are having terrible pain. Good to read that your Doctor is listening to you and sending you back hopefully for an MRI. It could very well be related, but then again as you say might not be. I had back pain but it gradually improved as the blood dispersed. You are very early in your recovery and everyone is different. It is a good thing to get checked out and will also give you peace of mind. Good luck for tomorrow. Please let us know how you get on. Take care Tina
Gary
Hi Tina Many thanks for replying, the doctor says the blood normally dissipates 2-5 days after, so assuming I am well past that. Not knowing is so difficult and the back pain has been getting worse. Google is not great for trying diagnose different things. Thanks again. Gary
Thanks Tina, They said they will do a full spinal MRI as an outpatient. Frustrating but the 4 hours sat in the waiting room was a restful experience. Being self employed I haven’t taken a single day off since my Nasah 8 weeks ago (stupid I know), Starting to feel like I’m going backwards. Headaches, very sensitive to noise and finding my sleep is all over the place. Luckily I work from home as can’t drive at the minute. Staring at screens isn’t great though. My back was a dull ache, but now the pain can be more acute. I believe I have lost height also, so assume maybe a compression fracture on the spine. Wondering if confirmed whether this contributed to the NASAH. I’ve been focused this last week or so on my back and need to keep reminding myself that I’m still recovering from the NASAH. I am suppose to be going on holiday in 3 weeks and my wife says we should cancel. Has anyone flown soon after a NASAH? Was the pressure an issue? Best wishes Gary
Tina
Hi Gary, that is good news they will do an MRI. Hopefully you wont have to wait too long as an out patient. Hope will give you answers to do with your back pain. My advice about work is slow right down as much as you can. Difficult i know being self employed. Try and take naps to catch up on sleep during the day and regular breaks from the screen. If you push too hard your body will let you know....and it is ! With regards to your holiday coming up, i would speak to your Consultant and GP to see what they think before cancelling. The break would certainly do you good. I did not fly for a few years after my bleed and found the pressure fine, but i did go deaf in one ear for a couple of days. There maybe others here that can comment on flying. Take care and please let us know how you get on when you can. Tina
