Exercise question

Recommended Posts

I had a NASAH end of April, spent a week in intensive care then sent back home, no surgery required, first few weeks were rough with bad headaches, I had terrible pain all over my body for couple of weeks which I believe was blood disapaiting down my spine and interfering with nerve endings, but after that pretty much ok.

I took a couple months off work then went back phased and have been back full time with no issues for couple of months. My main question and one the neuro nurse couldn't really answer was when it is safe to lift heavy weights (in the hundreds of kilos) in the gym? I have been back at the gym for about two months and started off fairly light but have got back to heavy lifting and feeling completely fine.

I am a bit paranoid about causing myself issues but no-one seems to really know what is safe and what isn't. My latest MRI was completely clear and I was officially discharged from hospital last week, the nurse I spoke to just said take it easy but didn't really have a timeframe. I imagine it is a case of listening to my body which I'm doing, there is a lot more research on SAH and I feel extremely fortunate to have had a NASAH with what I hope to be a full recovery in fairly short period of time.

Has anyone got any info on potential complications of weight lifting and causing vessels to re-burst as such? Most info I can find is related to SAH only. Thanks, all the best

Hello and a warm welcome to BTG.

So glad you found the site....you will find a wealth of information within the various forums from members who have faced issues in their SAH recovery.

Your question on gym weightlifting has come up many times, and if you use the 'Search' icon at the top right of the Home page...key in ' gym weight lifting" and you will see what I mean. 😊

We do not give medical advice, always seek help from your Consultants and their medical team before indulging in strenuous exercise.

Remember, you are in the minority as a survivor and play safe and slow as you continue your recovery.

We look forward to hearing more about your NASAH experience and recovery and would welcome reading your story so far in the Introduce Yourself Forum when time permits.

Take care and as you said...listen to your body.  Pace yourself well during these early days and give your brain recovery time.
