  1. Hi Zoe,

Sorry to hear that you are having such a difficult time, it is not right that Richard takes out his frustration on you, I think you are coping remarkably well keeping the home running and looking after the children. I watched a programme on tv the other night about a young man who got brain damaged from a fall, and watched him over the next year as he struggled to recover. His journey seemed remarkably similar to the one made by sufferers of an SAH, he also became very angry and abusive to his family and carers at the rehab he was in, for a time. However he did improve once he had accepted what had happened and accepted that he would never be the person he used to be. I hope that Richard reaches this stage soon :)

  2. Hello Liz, c/o Louise

I think all of us who have survived an SAH feel very scared at first, but it does get easier in time. I agree with the 'baby steps' message, recovery is slow for a lot of us. Headway are good to get in touch with, they helped me a lot when I needed support.

Louise - I think the brain and spine foundation provide leaflets.

  3. Hello Alan and Erin

Welcome to the site and am impressed by how well you are coping with all the trauma :)

As the others have said it is often quite a long road to recovery but most of us get there in the end.

  4. Hello Kasim and thankyou for letting us know how your mother is doing. Sorry to hear that there have been further complications and hope that Myra is soon home again. She has been very much missed on this site and I really hope that she will make a good recovery.

Thinking of you and your family

    Best Wishes

  5. Hi Sally,

Congrats on being here 1 year on :)

I would definitely recommend getting in touch with Headway, they are really helpful, understanding and can probably help you with the benefits minefield.

I was coiled and that is why I have to have scans etc, I think if you are clipped then it is done and dusted as far as the neuro surgeons are concerned. I think that the aftercare is pretty poor, because nobody really tells you what to expect afterwards and how long recovery will be. I think it is mainly because they don't know! everybody is different and recovers at their own pace, ( in my case that seems to be very slowly). One doctor just said to me 'How long is a piece of string' when I asked him when I would recover :)

Maybe go to your gp and ask about therapy? I have had counselling and a short course of anti depressants and it really helped.

  6. Hi Ash, really pleased to hear that your mum is smiling at visitors and beginning to move, she is obviously making progress. I know that you wish it was quicker, but us SAH patients need to take our time :)

  7. Hello Donna :)

It is possible that the peroxitine would make you a bit dizzy and also being anxious can make you dizzy as well!

I am 3 years after my SAH and still get headaches and wobbliness at times, usually because I have overdone it, but sometimes for no apparent reason.

Afraid I will also have to say go see your GP and see what they say.

    Good Luck

  8. I too had quite a problem with insomnia, and feel that it had something to do with too much stimulation. If I had a quiet day at home not doing much I slept better than if I had a busy day! I tried herbal tablets and then temazepam, which finally helped. I now do a 15 minute meditation before getting into bed and this seems to help my mind settle down and most times now I sleep well :) I also gave up caffeine.

Afraid it has taken me a long time to get a proper nights sleep, when before my SAH I could sleep for England! :D
