Update and how I'm feeling after 2nd subarachnoid

Recommended Posts

So I've posted a few times on here - it's great to see that other people get over many problems by the help of others.

I had a SAH 4 years ago and recovered well - apart from poor memory (which as you all know people always say - that's just like me - it's because you are getting old !!! ) I got fit and healthy lost weight (2 stone ) and all was going well.

The 6th July I had another bleed (felt the tingle in the neck ) I had a quick recovery in hospital - the angiogram they did was quite intense this time as they did a very detailed one due to the fact it was my 2nd bleed and people don't have 2nd bleeds.

A week in hospital and when I left I felt OK - got home made good progress - then about 2 weeks after I suddenly got ( what I call episodes ) rushing sensations - pains in my neck and rushes and warm sensations all our my body and tinnitus ( which I suffered with before but is a lot more now) after I felt drained and unwell - I had a couple more episodes so went back to A&E where they scanned me again but negative result.

The specialist nurse says its anxiety attacks - I get them almost every other day now. I don't know why some are extreme and some I get a warm glowing feeling - today has been a bad day and I have pain across my shoulders and have had feelings like I've been a bit out of it - I try to get on with things as best I can but today - sofa day!

I find it hard as I feel ok and want to do stuff but then I get reminded that I'm not well enough to do all I want to do. I enjoy cycling - gave it  a go but all my muscles and neck pain made me re think.

I'm doing well and getting there and have been referred to psychologist to see if we can sort out the anxiety.

Good luck to you all, just thought I'd share a few experiences.

Hi Jimble,

Sorry to hear about 2nd one and panic/anxiety attacks.

It is easy for us to sit and type to you but you are the one going through this.

I hope the anxiety soon goes and you get help as my daughter gets panic attacks and her mouth dries up and she feels like she cannot swallow.

She always has mints to make saliva which seems to help and water,  she had one yesterday so we stopped and chatted and she had some mints and she said " I'm okay now Mum" I still made her wait a while ..so bossy.

Keep Well Jimble and good luck and keep in touch, let us know how you get on xx

Hi Jimble

So sorry to hear of the second bleed and now anxiety attacks.  I hope seeing someone will help you and you can return to your cycling.

So it seems you must be the one person my consultant who he had heard had a second bleed in all his 25 years! Hmm strange when I am sure we have possibly heard of others ourselves.  Just so pleased you are here to tell us about your story. We need each other on here. Such support.

The other thing I find hard to take is others telling us they have the same memory problems, getting old, etc and etc. I want to say it is not the same. I feel like it is a physical block in my brain, maybe only over what is a seconds in real time but it is not the feeling of  "why am I in this room", or "where I have put my glasses". I have to stop, take stock, rethink what I was saying, then start again.  I have found talking on the phone difficult with this as people can't see me taking time out and I then get confused.  Maybe that will change, I am sure it shall.  In the mean time, just remember we know how you feel and are with you.

Hope you get some good results with the psychologist and you can move another step forward.

In the mean time give your bike in peak condition for the future.

Ha yes the "where is my ... (Item) that you just had and now forgotten where it is " I do that lots - you mentioned on the phone - if I'm on the phone or talking to someone and there is a distraction or something else happening near me - I can't talk! I can't get the words out because I can't filter out background distractions. Thanks for the support!

Wow, was your bleed non aneursymal?  Both times?  You should be in the many studies I've read.   Anxiety is an awful thing and I suffered from it my first year.  It would come out of nowhere and I'd get a rushed heart and sweaty hands and feel like I was on the outside of myself looking in.  I do hope the Drs. have you monitored more closely now.  It's a terrible thing to be frightened.

  • 4 weeks later...

Hi Jimble

I also get weird hot spots in my body - on my arm or on my leg or on a specific point on my head e.g. forehead - and I've put it down to my body being pre-menopausal and just hot flushes which aren't full on menopause hot flushes but perhaps impaired hot flushes due to damage caused by the SAH. I don't know of course. I used to have tinnitus but after getting cranial osteopathy it resolved it. So glad to hear you recovered for a second time xx
