  1. Hi Mathew Welcome to BTG its good to hear that you have made such a good recovery. There are quite a few people on the site who have had non anuerysm SAHs. If you look on Subarchnoid Haemorrage Discussion thread you'll find it in one of the topics there. I think the tiredness is one of the side effects of a SAH I find that if I do too much the fatigue kicks in but with a job like yours and a young child life must get pretty hectic. You are lucky having an actual support group in your area a lot of places don't but this site has been a godsend to myself during my recovery. The people are really great and I have made a lot of friends some of whom I have been lucky enough to meet up with. Look forward to hearing more from you Janet x
  2. Hi Leo A warm welcome sounds like you have plenty of support from friends and family which is really important in the first few months. This site and the people on it have played a very important role in my recovery and the friendship help and support recieved is brilliant. Hope you find it as useful as I do. Look forward to hearing more from you soon. Janet x
  3. Hi Kirsty A very warm welcome to BTG. I can't help with the counselling as I haven't needed to be referred. I know Sami had some counselling for P.T.S so she may be able to offer you some advice and there may be other members who have had counselling. Hope that you find a solution soon and look forward to hearing more from you. Janet x
  4. Hi Karen So glad that the head pain has eased off and hope the eye starts to behave soon. As you know I agree wholeheartedly with you about the aftercare and different levels of support available in different areas of the country. I go for my C.T scan on Friday but am still waiting to hear from Walton with an appointment for Mr Eldridge. When I do finally see the Consultant I will be raising the issue of follow up support for our particular area and also hopefully get them to include the website address on the advisory sheet given to patients recovering from SAH. Not that it done me much good as I didn't get mine til my follow up appointment. So sorry you had no joy with WIKI apart from bashing your head against the proverbial brick wall as you say it will be a loss to so many fellow sufferers. Janet x
  5. Hello LauraJane Welcome to the site. I used to laugh hysterically at stupid things in the first few weeks it still happens occassionally but I agree with Karen it is emotional liability and only tends to happen now if I'm stressed or overtired. Look forward to hearing more from you soon. Janet x
  6. Hi Debbie So sorry to hear that your mum is feeling sick all the time without the patch. Surely you would have thought that if it is helping her sickness and balance they would have let her continue to wear it. If you are unhappy with the information and services the hospital are failing to provide have a word with the PALS people at the hospital they may be able to take things further forward. Just remember to take care of yourself as well its hard going being caught in the middle of your mum and medical staff. Janet x
  7. Hi Malathi Did you have a craniotomy and clips put on the Aneurysms. I was clipped and because the slice through the jaw muscle it makes the jaw saw and stiff to move. It took a few months before I could open my mouth completely and I also found it really awkward eating for quite some time it does get better eventually. I read somewhere that chewing gum can help as it loosens the muscles I can't stand the stuff so don't know if it works as I didn't try. Hope that helps and welcome to the site look forward to hearing more from you soon. Janet x
  8. Laura I'm a lightweight too since SAH lucky if I can manage one alcoholic drink just doesn't agree with me anymore. I still enjoy socialising but stick to mainly still water. Janet x
  9. Hi Laura/Pam Sorry Pam I also can't advise with regard to antibiotics maybe speak to your dentist if you can. Laura I put off having any type of treatment for months with having a craniotomy my jaw was saw and my mouth wouldn't open properly for ages. Finally had my first filling September last year and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. My head was a little bit sore for a couple of days after but not much worse than usual. Janet x
  10. Hi John Must admit coughing bothers me and I've just got over that bug so was coughing for nearly a month. I don't have coils mine is clipped but is worry wondering if all the coughing might make it shift or pull loose. I try my best not to dwell on it too much as anxiety makes things seem ten times worse. Janet x
  11. Hi Linda Congratulations for your 1st Annie-versary hope you're keeping well. Enjoy whatever way you're celebrating it. Janet x
  12. Hi Anne I returned to work after seven months on a phased return. To begin with I only worked 20 hours and because I work in a call centre for the first month I didn't go on the phones just sat listening to other people and re-learning the system. I found it very tiring at first and when back on the phones used to have a five minute break every hour. I have only managed to increase upto 30 hours a week and still find it very tiring by the end of the week. Personally if you're still feeling so exhausted try explaining to your employer that it maybe a few months yet before you're ready to consider starting back. I did find returning to work helped me to feel a lot more normal and stopped me from sinking into depression but I find that I'm too tired to do much around the house apart from weekends or holidays. Hope that helps a bit with the decision you have to make. Janet x
  13. Hi Debbie and welcome Sorry to hear your mum is still feeling so ill it must be really hard having too watch her suffer. I found the first few weeks after my SAH very hard as my vision in my left eye was so bad it does cause dizziness and although I wasn't physically sick much it did make me feel very nauseaous (spelling). Is her vision bad in both eyes or just one because if its just one patching the affected eye might help a bit. I hope your mum starts to feel better soon but remember to look after yourself as well its really early days for her yet and she will need all your help and support in the coming months. Take care and let us know how she gets on. Janet x
  14. Hi Karen Warm welcome to you and I hope you find the site as helpful as I have. As Karen says we are a good bunch on here so if you have any questions just ask away. Look forward to hearing more from you just remember to get plenty of rest its still very early on in your recovery. Take care Janet x
  15. Hi Again Forgot to tell you my daughter said they're called overlays. Janet x
  16. Hi Pam My daughter was severely dyslexic and used to use the the coloured perspect sheets for school/college work. You should be able to get them from any good stationary shop such as WHSmiths. Hope that is of some use to you. Janet x
  17. Hi Cal If I do too much my legs get like lead weights and I become extremely clumsy my legs and feet do tend to puff up a bit by the end of the day as well but are normally fine if I put them up for half an hour. Tell Jim that I'm glad he's doing so well. Janet x
  18. Hi Erbowman and Welcome I had very similar symptoms to you terrible pain behind my left eye off and on for about six weeks befrore my SAH. To begin with I put it down to eye strain as I was doing a lot of proof reading at work. It was only when it got severe and I was violently sick that I realised it was probably something more serious by which time the intense screwdriver pain behind my caused a Third Nerve Palsy and I lost most of the sight in my left eye for a while. It sounds quite positive that they think it maybe an Aneurysm at least that way you should hopefully be able to be treated and monitored. Hope you get the right treatment soon as Lesley says let us know how you get on. Janet x
  19. Hi Anne Welcome to site I'm sorry but I can't help with taste/smell issue as mine for the most part is not too bad but having said that I find I don't like anything overly sweet anymore. My biggest difficulty after SAH was eating at all to begin with as with having a crainiotomy they cut through the jaw muscle and I couldn't open my mouth properly. Unfortunately it got better, now my only problem is trying to shift the increase in weight I know Scott (Rince) has a similar problem so he wil probably give you some more advice. Look forward to hearing more from you. Janet x
  20. Hi Laura Can't say I've noticed an increase in my stactic levels since SAH but I have always been prone to quite a lot of excessive static I used to own a mini and as much as I loved my car I always got shocked when opening and closing the doors. Janet x
  21. Hi Paul I tried to respond on the home page last night and had problems. I agree with everyone else its a lovely piece and written with such humour. Morris agrees with a lot of what you've written about the stress fear and sadness you felt when Lesley was so ill. Take care Janet x
  22. Hi Everyone Just bought some Sea Kelp after discussing it with the Pharmacist apparently no known side effects if taking it with Amitrytiline. It works on balancing out the thyroid function which in turn may increase the metabolism. Will keep you all posted if it does manage to kick start my metabolism as my has been zero since SAH and exercise and healthy eating isn't working on its own. Janet x
  23. Stephen So sorry to hear that you had bad news from the Neurosurgeon sending you a big virtual hug. Janet x
  24. Hi Michael and Welcome Glad to hear that you are making such a good recovery as Karen has already said just remember to take it easy and listen to your body. Janet x
  25. Hi Julie A warm welcome to the site looking forward to hearing more about you. Janet x
