  1. Paulhuc,

I had a grade 4 and was out of it,   and I had Ventriculitis in the early days, UTI and then Sepsis. and a bad bed sore on my heel.  My Surgeon saw it and said to Nurses "I do not want that to get any worse"  Now I have a dent in heel !!

The OT's said "put her in home"  Family disagreed, phew lol xx Once I got home my family said all I did was sleep and I was found to have Hydrocephalus.  So the Therapy I was getting did not register in my brain, as it was full of fluid !! I had a shunt fitted and remember coming around and my dogs jumping on me xx  The OT's  I remembered in my watery brain were nasty horrible people and I swore at them when they made me do baby things as my brain was not with it.  I cried, I played them up but I felt I had to be strong against them in my floaty brain.  Bet I was a pain lol.

I awoke after having a shunt fitted and heard about this site via my Daughter Bessie.  (her real name is Sarah) .

Sounds like hubby is  doing okay but get him aftercare as he needs it as so did I.  I wish you both Good Luck. Oh also while in hospital the carers shaved my eyebrows off, and my top lip which I used to bleach, what is it with them and hair  lol xxx  Keep strong and with your help he will get well soon xx  Music and laughter is my answer to everything.

Now sing him his fave song  xx get him singing  and smiling  again xxx and he can tap his feet to the music x

    Love

Win  Had my fav meal in liquid form or so I am told xxxx

  2. Hi PalH

I was told I'd never walk again and one day I had music on (They say music is good for us) and started to tap my feet as I think I can tap dance xx

I then thought if I can move my feet, then why cant I move?  so out come a foot pedal (electric one).  So in the early days I practiced taking little steps.

On a good day I can walk 200 yards plus, before back aches.  On a bad day approx. 100 or 60 yards. I did all the exercises you can think of like raise feet, twist ankles etc .

Christmas morning 2010 I walked 4 steps and gave my hubby his Christmas pressie.

It may not seem a lot but it gave me my dignity back and for after new year my hubby ordered me a zimmer frame to get to bathroom.

Good luck and sending positive vibes for you both xxx  Never give up xxxx

Win xxxxx   My next aim is to go shopping without a W/chair but not yet ready xx

  3. Best they have spotted it, as they are doing their job, a few on here have had the aneurysm either re coiled or clipped.

Some have a regular check up on it to make sure it hasn't changed.

I know you both must be worried but it shows they are alert  to this.

    Good Luck to you both

    Love

    Win xxxx  Head/Chin up  xxxx

  4. Johnnie M,

You just do not want to scare family which is good on you.

You keep getting better and hope to see you in Green Room when you feel like it  xx

Keep getting better and stronger, okay we will have an off day but as long as the good outweigh the bad then we have made it..

    Good luck

    Win xx

  5. ddson,

Mine changed after my SAH but I never realised it until I had a shunt in as I was in cuckoo land until then.

I think things stink and they do not, my hubs gets the hump with it lol.  Doc said it is all in my head but I told him and my nostrils xx He never laughed lol

Mind you I cannot sleep in a bed for more than 4 nights before I wanted it changed.  We do not mean to be a pain and it is horrid,

I ate chocs also and put on weight but I love my food but cannot stand stew/casserole  type dinners.

Take her out for a coffee and remember to us it is so real.   I can eat for the UK lol xxxx

Wishing you both Good luck xxxx

    Win xxxxx

  6. Hiya Kindra,

I worked with my hubby and took the stress  of people going broke on us, and in the end it told on me.  (Win blames others for SAH lol)

You are doing great and all what others have said I agree with.

Just keep a smile close to hand and shame you cannot carry a camp bed around for those moments of extreme fatigue.  Darn it xx

Wishing you all the best and listen to what your body is telling you.  Easy for me to say xx

    Be Well

Win xxxx  I believe happiness can get us through this and of course the odd occasional song from myself xx

  7. Hi Gemma,

I had a 4 and also Hydrocephalus, I was told I'd never walk again but up to 220 yards on a good day before back aches.

I then got Ventriculitis, UTI, Sepsis and hydrocephalus that a shunt sorted me out and came back to the real world.

This site will help Mum as it did me, I started to sing in the middle of others posts as singing kept me happy lol (I was a pain at first) and couldn't keep on track.

But they stuck by me and now I come on here and leave laughing, which is a good medicine along with me typing songs out ha ha

Ask Mum what she wants , even have a party on 1st Anniversary with Mum as "Special Guest of Honour"  or before you leave ???

Whatever happens I wish you and Mum all the Best xxxx

Go get married and be happy that will be good medicine for your Mum xxx

We need laughter and happiness to get us back on track xxx so tell Mum not to listen to tales of woe  and keep hers and your chins up xxxx and I'll keep my 3 up lol

God Bless you All xxxx By the way my short term is getting better  slow but sure  !! see forgot to mention that ha ha xx also No Stress for Mum  xxxx

I cried a tear,  you wiped it dry.  Then I add I stuck a needle in your eye ha ha told you I was daft as a brush  xx

My brothers grand daughter was in the Theatre playing in the Profumo affair play and my brother was worried about her part lol.  He went to see it though xx

Just remember Johnnie   Still, half a sixpence Is better than half a penny Is better than half a farthing Is better than none.

    Hi Johnnie M

Someone on here wrote about this a while back, I remember looking it up  and to put it in my terms a quadrant of your eye  loses it's site is that correct  ?

See no Docs on here just people who have had this and other things similar happen to them.  When I heard I had a stroke I thought "Uh Oh"  and to be honest I was afraid as although I am an old dear I didn't think it was my time.  You have done well,  back so early.

So no stress and no worrying I was told by my Surgeon.

Keep calm and others will reply,  as my answer to all ills is to sing !!

Take care and well done  on recovery

Winb143 xxxx Talk about slow I am,  you have spoken to others ..sorry Arghhh = me screaming lol

  10. I do not remember a lot but my Daughter said she saw a yoghurt pot by the side of my bed while in hospital and that made her happy.

My Family brought me up Jaffa cakes, and I bought them up over a visitor  !!  (So I am told)

I was greedy hence the weight, so I ate anything that was put in front of me.  (they said)

See Doc if you are feeling sick.  Get it put on your records.  No stressing also.

    Good luck

Winb143..Cannot eat as fast as I used to  xx

  11. Hi Liz,

I had an SAH I didn't remember much just passing out.  Felt rough all that day though.  Had shunt put in for hydrocephalus and that bought me back to the real world xx

You will get better and just knowing you are not alone in this helps,  so every time you get down come on here.

I was like you, at a loss and okay what happens now.  We start living again Liz as we are the ones who made it.

I must admit the hospitals do not tell you much once released but as Clare and Tina have put drink the water, also keep happy hard to do at first but laughter and singing helped me.

It gave all on BTG headaches, but it made me feel better and you will get there  xx

Take it easy and read A Letter from your Brain

    Wishing you all the best

    Win xxxx

  12. All hot drinks taste foul to me unless it is a Costa coffee,   Sainsburys Supermarket is okay but hit n miss xx

I get weird smells also and it drives me potty.

Cheer up Rosie it gets better xx  Keep trying different ones as my Daughter gets fed up getting me a coffee from local garages lol

    Good luck

    Win xx xx

  13. Hi Martin,

All what Chelle and Clare have already said.

No Stress or expecting her to be able to cope as before the SAH.  It is a long haul for all of you but let her know how much she is loved and get some rest yourselves as it is also hard work for carers.

Keep anyone who loves doom and gloom stories away from her as she needs to be happy and not stressed out by others problems.

Hard when she has 2 children xx She will get there with the love of her Family  xxxx

Take care all of you and good luck to Sister xxxx

    Regards

Winb143 xxxx Note: My brother and sisters sang to me and it helped me a lot xxxx

  14. Karen Hi,

I used to say to my Sisters  "tell Dad when I get better I'll come and see him" and they'd agree with me, my Dad died in 1999 and I totally forgot !!

Did Mum ever sing ? if so get her to sing or sing her fave song with her.  That is what my Sisters did with me.

I had a shunt put in a year after my SAH and I awoke.   But  when I was out of it.  I saw my Parents but Mum wouldn't talk to me.

I think it was because my Daughter needed me ??? and it seemed so real !!

I come from a family who sang a lot and music keeps me going.  I cannot take Doomers and Gloomers telling me sad news.  I used to but not anymore !!  part of the SAH I guess.

No Stress as I say to every newcomer lol as my Surgeon told me this.  Get her to laugh and sing if possible.  I was so scared when I woke up as I thought

uh oh this is it !!  I couldn't even remember where I lived.

Take her for a coffee, get her out.  Been there got the dents in head to prove it.  Also I put a lot of weight on now on a diet grrr.

Your Mum will get there but it is a long haul and she needs a fuss made of her as my Family did to me.

We are back to arguing again.  So life is back to normal.  Apart from walking I can walk 220 yards on a good day.

Good luck to all of you  and be patient we do get confused and look at  " A letter from your Brain" it describes what Mums been through xxxx

WinB143 xx xx My short term memory is awful xx

  15. Hi Shobs and Sandeep,

As others have said we cannot give medical advice, but to know your husband and others have been through the same is a help in itself.

We are here and when we feel like a rant I come on here, as a trouble shared is a trouble halved.

I remember nothing until I had a shunt put in to get rid of my Hydrocephalus in 2010.

I was told I would not walk but I came on leaps and bounds, I can walk 220 yards before resting my back.

Keep Hubby away from unhappy people I find I cannot listen to others troubles too much since my SAH.

I need happiness and I have come on here and left laughing at computer screen !!

My Neuro Surgeon told me Stress is bad so passing it on to you.  So if you have Family or Friends who like to tell you their tales of Woe keep them away for a while.

Wishing you both Well and let us know how you and hubby are coping.

    Good  Luck

    WinB143 xx

  16. Lindsey,

I wont say don't get upset as it is natural xx  I was told I was like this.  I told people off and I cried, I must have been a pain in the butt.

Thought I was in a café and I wanted to pay for snack and asked my Daughter for my bag and she said "it isn't here Mum" I told her to stop mucking about  and give me my bag and I was in hospital bed  xx

Sing him his fav song or something he'll remember from years ago.  Your Dad is in there you just need to take no notice of what he has said as his brain has been through it.

After I had shunt fitted,  my Daughter said welcome back Mum and we both had a cry, as I knew what she had been through.  Now we are back to arguing lol xx

Keep strong for Dad and rest up yourself.

    Love

    Win xxxx

  17. Lindsey,

I used to sit up as I needed loo and in those days I couldn't walk, I woke house up just needing the loo and got giddy for rushing to go to toilet. (nice subject) lol

I was told what Daffs has said "sit up slowly when ready swing legs off bed and sit there for a while then slowly get up"  whilst giving my orders xx

Dad will get there eventually as I did and this site is good as it lets us know we are not alone xx

    Good Luck

    Win xxxx

  18. I was told my Dad's sister and her boys (Aunt and Cousins) who had it weren't close enough relatives.

It must be a weakness  as my Dad died at 92, he fell down and they found he had TIA's and it wasn't the fall that killed him it was the TIA's ?????

We never knew he had them until he went in hospital.  He always said "Bleeping hospitals get there hands on you and you are for it" .

I love him so much and am smiling while I type about him.  Dad and Mum were so funny they have left me with a big smile.

Sorry if I have gone off track xxxx

    Win xxxx
