  1. Hi Lindsey,

I had what your Dad had and I used to say to my Sisters "Tell Dad I'll come and see him when better" trouble was he died in 1999 !!

Keep talking to him,  and my Sisters used to sing to me and when I woke up from cuckoo land as I call it.  I sang to a Nurse.

When Dad gets better you can have a few laughs at what he said as I have xx

You take care and Dad will get there but it is a long haul.  Well was for me as I had complications.   Keep Dad stress free and look after yourself also.

I saw my Parents but my Mum wouldn't speak to me ?? She died in 1976

Good luck to You and Dad

  2. Hi Phil,

Welcome to Behind the Grey (BTG) as I call it.

I had an SAH in 2009 and remember nothing until shunt was put in a year later.

    1) With your job ask Boss if you can stagger hours or come to a compromise with them.

    2) Long term memory okay, Short term arghh  well I think a lot of us have that,  it comes with the bleed/SAH.   It does get better but slowly,  in my case very slowly  but we are all different.. I forgot my Dad was dead !!

    3) My Neuro Surgeon told me no stress whatsoever and insisted on it.  So I sing happy songs that cheer me up and remember fun times when I have laughed until I cried.

    4) Not a Dr so cannot say,  can only say what happened to me.  I get/got headaches,  cannot take other peoples problems anymore, I try and take less pills as I am on

         enough as it is

    5) My addition, Keep thinking happy thoughts, and life is stressful so it is hard not to stress.  Keep a smile close at hand and do not listen to others worries.

         We survived !!

I wish you all the best in your recovery, I was told I'd never walk again but now down 120 yards, rested and walked back to my daughters car.  Never give up xx

Best Wishes for your recovery xx

WinB143 alias Win  Forgot drink plenty of water xx

  3. Sara ,

Listen to your body and what Casey and Chelle have said, if you feel like yuk rest up.

We are survivors but it takes a while to get better, but if we listen to what hospital has said and Docs  we will get there xx

Be happy and stress free, ie do not take on others worries.  Look after you without sounding mean.  xx

Good luck on recovery  oh and I had an SAH with a bleed and other complications  xx

    Love

  4. Hi Ticks

Hope it grows back but Bobby Charlton had a comb over,  just kidding you.

Good to be alive isn't it.   Things do get better but if your brain says you are tired listen to it xx

There is an item on here "It is your brain talking to you"  it puts what we have been through into perspective (did I spell it correct)  Help me Someone xx

Hair will grow back I hope and as everyone told me drink water.  Also my Surgeon said  Stress is not good for you so I was warned about that so if you see a song it is me getting Stress free.

You will get better and this site is so good as we all have been there.  I cannot walk very far as my back aches so much but they said I'd never walk now 200 yards !!

Be well and if down come on here and type away it really does help xx

    Win xx

  6. Hi Missy,

Listen to what the others have put and when you feel down come on here, it has helped me realise we are not alone in this.

With time we will get better so remember No Stress !!  and listen to what others have put and listen to your body/brain also .

    Wishing you all the best

  7. Hi Rosie,

I used to sleep all the time due to hydrocephalus, but had a shunt put in a year later.  I still get tired but I can last the day now and then 8pm comes and bed calls me.

It does get better but we cannot rush it,  listen to your brain and body.  If tired have a rest.  We have a few runners on here (No not the beans) lol   Clare and Chris alias Bronco

I have just started walking so I am a lazy one  xx  Just keep happy and get well and we will beat this.  We are Survivors, tired ones but none the less Survivors xx

Good luck and do it at your pace and as others said don't forget the water.

    Regards

  8. Hi Gareth,

I could not remember my address or anything, I just slept and was in dreamland.

I knew my Hubby and Daughter, but hadn't realised my Dad was dead and I used to say to my Sisters "Tell Dad I'll be up to see him when better"  !!

Singing songs helped me remember times in my life and I used to listen to my Family sing,  CD of them up local pub,  as half  of them have passed on also.

Give her time xx My hubby put my address on wall as I used to think I lived at my old house.   She will get there but it is a long haul xxxx

Remembered way way back but not 10 years and onward.  Still have the occasional slip in memory like I keep calling my Sister in law by the wrong name !!  Goes down well, not !!  ha ha

She will get better, it takes time and patience, which I sometimes think my hubby is running out of as I have to ask him how I spell words.  Whereas before I was good at spelling..

    Good luck Both of You

  9. Tim I had my SAH in 2009 and today I walked into Sainsbury's  Supermarket !!

Before I come onto this site I had feelings of dread and this "Well that's it for me"  But we will get there and we are survivors.

We cannot rush getting well we have to listen to our bodies and brain telling us to take it easy.

Wishing you all the best and remember a happy song or a smile can help. For when you smile doom and gloom cannot get in.

Good luck Tim and keep smiling when possible xx

  10. Hi Cat,

I get teary and I can be a miserable old gal to live with,  poor family.

I try and explain but then I feel like I am nagging them !!  I do find when stressed singing happy songs help me.

I try and think happy thoughts but end up teary half the time.  We will get there and as time goes on we find we are not alone in this.

It helps to know we are all going through what others have been through and we are still here xx  Thanks to Karen and Mods  and Karen's Family who started this up xx

So if you hear or see a song it is me typing a happy song as I must not stress  ha ha  xx

Keep chin up and keep looking forward xx

    Love

Welcome to BTG xx and remember to drink water xx

I awoke and thought it was the beginning of the end for me,  but then my Daughter found this site while I was in Hospital.

It helped her no end and it has done the same for me, knowing you aren't the only one is such a relief !!  Selfish I am xx

Found I was allergic to Codeine, never was before  SAH

Wishing you all the best on your recovery and keep a happy frame of mind  if and when possible xx

  15. Hi Mindy,

I had no dreams like Michelle once I awoke from dreamland, but they have returned now .

Always write down about the things that happen to you as I cannot remember 5 mins ago xx

Wishing you well and drink water as you have already been told and try not to Stress as stress is a no no xx bad for us !!

Now singing is good for us and keeping away from doom and gloomers, we need laughter in our life not others troubles.

I don't mean that rude but you need calm and no stress around you, so give yourself a break and get well at your own speed xx

    Take care of yourself xxxxx

  17. When I first went visiting I was" thingyme bob and whatshername said".  My short term memory was shot,  it comes back slow but sure.

Was always proud of my memory.  Long term okay but what happened 10 minutes ago I just couldn't grasp.

So you can always ask me to keep a secret as I will forget within a minute xx

Good to be alive no matter what xxxx

  18. Hi Luke,

I called it Cukooland  as I saw and spoke but everything was in the past, I saw my Daughter but she was at school age and she is 40 plus

I remember weird things like nurses jumping on me and I swore at them.

I fell out of bed lol xx poor nurses having a seizure !

This was in 2009,  I also had a catheter in which also made me ill.

2010 came and they decided to move me to hospital nearer to me

Then they said a shunt would help me and Neuro Surgeon said if it was his wife he'd have it done.  I woke up singing to a nurse so I am told and have gone from strength to strength.

Was told I would never walk again now I can walk 200 yards when feeling okay but when back aches approx. 60 to a 100 yards.  A Walk is walking though !!   I sing old songs my Family sung to me while out of it .  Every little you can do to help your Mum even if it seems daft do it xx

She is in there so good luck to you all and never give up on her xxxxx Give your Mum my best wishes xx  If this makes no sense I am typing with dog on my lap xx

  19.

    Hi Cindy,

My Aunt Nell/.Ellen had a brain bleed and all she remembered was the light going off.

Her 2 sons had bleeds also and  they had bad ones, going way back as I was 10 when Aunt Nell had hers.

I asked N.S. if it was a weakness on my Dads side and he told me we only look at immediate families ie Brothers, Sisters, Mums and Dads !!

Glad in a way my Daughter has migraine as they gave her an MRI scan which put my mind at ease..Phew .

I am not medical but it seems funny that an Aunt and her 2 sons had them and me !!  but who knows xx.

Take it easy and keep happy it really helps if you can keep Stress at bay and sing or remember a time when you laughed, as that helps me.

Good Luck and remember no rows or listening to others worries xx Smile at everything and think only of good times,

    Love

Winb143 xx xx Hard to do but go for it  xxxx

  20. Hi Cassandra

I have a shunt also, touch wood (head) no trouble YET !!

Glad it is sorted and you feel a bit better !!

No Stress,  My surgeon  told me this so  pass it on to everyone lol

    Water helps xx

Take it easy and all will be well, don't worry when weather becomes overcast as all who have shunts on here get what some call a barometer head.  heavy feeling xx  Well I think most do ???? lol xx

    Take it easy

  22. Hi Sadz

Never give up on Brother and as Super said, we cannot offer medical advice.  Perhaps there is someone on here who has been through similar.

I was told I'd never walk again but I can walk 60 yards on a bad day and 200 plus on a good day. (Back goes)

I do hope your Brother gets better as it is a long haul and he'll need family around him.

Keep his spirits high and with you in his corner who knows what he can do as the human spirit is strong.

Be well and keep brother happy,  I wish you and Brother all the best on his recovery.

    Regards

    Winb143 xx
