  1. I wanted to use this supplement for my dizziness but my GP gave me a firm no! I was adviced by him and my neurosugeon not to take any herbal supplements and over the counter medication without medical advice from them. They did say that it might help some people but not all, each situation is different. For me it was the fact I had a bleed and then there is also a question of my high blood pressure and the medications I am taking now. Caroline, I would get your GP advice first. Take care. Myra xx
  2. I was going to take this supplement but my GP said, "no way" I think there are some risks with some herbal supplements and yes I do feel that you should consult your neurosurgeon or GP. I was told by my GP not to take just any old over the counter medications without his or neurosurgeons advice. I guess everyone is different, I did have a bleed but then I suffer from other medical conditions too so it might not be safe for me but for others it might be ok to take. Myra xx
  3. Hi Blossomuk A very warm welcome to BTG, as Janet and Keith have already said it's normal to feel the way you do. It's still early days and it does get better, we all have our ups and downs with our recovery but one thing is for sure we can all relate to what you have been through and going through. I sometimes still get nervous about twinges in my head but I try to not let it get to me. If there is anything you need to know just post it on here and I am sure that myself or someone else will be able to answer your questions. I look forward hearing from you more. Take care. Myra xx
  4. Congratulations on your 1st anni-versary Shiree It's great to see you posting again, so glad that you are doing well in your recovery. I hope you keep getting better, and also take it easy. Myra xx
  5. I agree with everyone here, It's not easy to forget about what we have been through and still go through. Mollie, you have us here as we really do understand. Take care. Myra xx
  6. Hi Penny, That's exactly how I feel almost everyday, I get no answers as to why but like you I also had hydrocephalus. I always use a crutch to help with my balance but I don't like using it. There are so many things that happen to us after SAH and never get addressed. Myra xx
  7. Thanks for the information Louise, I contacted the North London Office Headway and they have monthly meetings at the same hospital where I was treated. Myra xx
  8. Thanks for the article Sami I had a councillor once and I don't think I will go again, I don't think she had any idea about SAH and she was at least honest by telling me that it's a first time with a SAH survivor. I think it's about time that emphasis should be made on the mental part of recovery of SAH. Myra xx
  9. After visiting my neurosugeon in Germany last week, they were surprised about the lack of check ups here, they normally would do regular scans three times in the first year of SAH then annually and more when ever required and normally when the neurosurgeon requests a scan it can be done on the same day and you can discuss the outcome within 2 days of the scan. Nearly all SAH survivors would be sent to a rehabilitation centre to cope with the physical and emotional side of the SAH. I am grateful to the NHS, after all they saved my life and I still think it's a good service to us all but I do wish that they follow some of their European counterparts to make it a better service to us all. When I move back to Germany in 2 years time at least I know that I can visit any neurosurgeon there and get the appropriate treatments even for the re-assurance that everything is ok. Myra xx
  10. I have weakness on the left leg, I can walk fine but I cannot lift the leg up so sometimes have problems climbing stairs. It,s the leg that the coiling was done so like Blondie and Laura. I have had physiotherapy to strenghen the leg but no changes since SAH. I guess I have to live with it. Myra xx
  11. I can't stand loud noises anymore since SAH, I have to put the volume lower when watching tv and when the adverts come on I put the tv on mute. I find when there is so much noise around and people are talking at the same time my head goes on over drive and have to leave the room. I prefer it now where there is silence, maybe I should visit the library more often! Myra xx
  12. Hi Debbie I often get flashbacks and I get very sad, I started feeling ill in bed with the onset of the SAH so everytime I lie down at that particular spot I remember the headache. It will be a year next month and I have noticed that lately I am thinking about it a lot more I can't talk to anyone about it because I don't want them to think I have gone crazy and I don't think that people who have not had a SAH can really relate to how we get on with our minds. I hope that make sense. I look back within the year and I know I have come a long way I guess the flashbacks will ease with more time but to me it's very personal to me, it's the time where I can reflect on how lucky I am. Take care. Myra xx
  13. Welcome to BTG Lauren I hope your mother makes a good recovery, it's early days for your mother but please feel free if you need any advice we all understand what you and your family are going through. Let us know how she is getting along. Take care. Myra xx
  14. Welcome to BTG Steve Sorry to hear about your wife's SAH. I hope she makes a good recovery. I cannot remember a lot of things when I had my SAH but I was told that I was very confused and I would get extremely angry, I did have short term memory loss and to be honest I still have that problem now. Each person is different but we do have similar problems. The people who helped me the most in hospital were the physiotherapists, my leg on the left side had become weak and they helped. I think also that hospitals care policies vary a lot too, I wasn't very happy with mine as a lot of questions were left unanswered it's only on this website that my questions were answered. Very little information is given to patient when they are discharged, a month after I had left hospital I was scared as to what now but each day is getting better but it's still frustrating as recovery can be slow. Let us know how she is getting along. Take care. Myra xx

  22. Hi everyone I would like my medical records also, does anyone know how long that can take? Myra xx
  23. Hi Karen I was 46 years old when SAH occured- anterior communicating artery aneurysm--- coiled Middle cerebral artery aneurysm needs to be coiled, date not confirmed. Myra xx
  24. Hi Karen Since my SAH I do find that I get tired so much more, I do take naps during the day. The biggest problem I do get is the nausea during the night and actually have been sick. During early in my recovery I was having problems sleeping the hours were so erratic. To be honest I was scared going to sleep as I had my rupture about 2.00am and it took a long time not to think about it especially in the exact position that I was sleeping. I don't think that my dreams have changed that much but Asim has pointed out that I have sleep walked in my sleep and found me crying once. Myra xx
