    Leon

Hi Leon and welcome to the site, pleased to hear you are enjoying your retirement, there are more important things in life than work, but we do miss it when we dont do it. best wishes Rod
  6. Hi Jan I would say that you are doing the right thing to stay off work on sick leave as if you return now without anything in writing surely that would be under the terms of your existing contract and they could ask you to do anything, i'd wait for something in writing, that is the way i see it, Good luck Rod
  7. Hi Homer, and welcome to the site, My wife merrill had 2 annis 1 of which was basilar tip the other anteria comm artery, look forward to hearing more from you Best wishes Rod
  8. Hi Lynz i think if you did'nt think like that you'd have something to worry about, but a virus is probably all it is, but if it does concern you just to put your mind at ease talk to your gp, Good luck Rod
  9. Hi hav'nt had time to read all the answers to this post but just to mention a couple of months ago Merrill had a really bad cough and it worried me so i look up cough on wikipedia and followed it through and came up with theo bromine helps to stop couching it its highly concentrated in dark chocolate i bought merrill a bar of green and black chocolate the 70% cocoa, she ate about 6 square at 12 20pm and never coughed again for over 7 hours and now if she gets a bit of a cough she it's a few squares of that and it seems to do the trick. Rod
  10. Hi just like everyone else i too think you have made the right decision,Merrill has a shunt and after it was fitted there was a marked improvement and i thought brilliant, Merrill has taken a step backwards just latley so they are sending her for a scan to check that the shunt is working properly, and i think that shows you the benefits they see in the shunt, also somebody has to make the decision and if no improvement is made you have still made the right decision on the info you had, Good luck to you both Rod
  11. Hi Saffy, i think if you were'nt worried that would be unusual, it just over a week a way and you've waited quite a while now, it will soon go. It is a very frustating time just wondering if you get to the date and they have to cancel because of an emergency, which shows they feel yours is ok at the moment, but hang in there and if you feel you need something to help see the gp and get something for it, keep off the cigaretts they are harder to give up and you are doing so well with that, Good luck Rod
  12. Hi Saffy, hopefully it wont be too long now for you, and well done on the smoking you're doing really well don't be temted now, Good luck Rod
  13. Hi again, yes Merrills annis were in the ACoA and the Basilar artery, the rupture was in the ACoA. There's quite a lot of reading on confabulation if you look around, I was quite alarmed when Merrill started coming out with things, and a visitor from templehead a group which works with people with various brain injuries said "look up confabulation" and there were all the answers anyway glad that helped a bit Good luck Rod
  14. Hi Di, (poetry) and welcome, sorry to hear of your illness, I've never had an sah i am a carer for my wife but must be very frightening for you when it happened, hope it all get sorted when you get to see the consultant on the 21st, Good luck with your recovery Rod
  15. Hi Sally and welcome to the site, all in all you sound as though you are doing really well, I'm a carer for my wife merrill she had an sah in march 2009 had 2 annis 1clipped and 1 coiled and then a shunt fitted amonth later, now just over 12 months down the line she still has little problems crop up from time to time, But i still think she is one of the lucky one's as for many its a whole lot worse, so good luck with your continued recovery Best wishes Rod
  16. Hi Zoe, yes Merrill suffered exactly the same, and even now after 12 months she still occasionaly does it , there is a name for it, it is called confabulation and if you google it you will find all sorts of info on it, it is having memories of things that never really happened, merrill would tell me people had been rpund when they had'nt and the doctor popped in to see her, people asked her to do things for them and a whole host of things, i read somewhere that to recover from it it helps to be aware that you are doing it, so you should correct him when he is wrong and explain what is happening. I found it all very alarming when it first happened and it really spooked me, Merrill still does it occassionaly and when i look at her she says am i speaking rubbish again and we just laugh it off, it does get better in time and i'm told that it will go completly in time. I think there is also a bit on wikipedia on confabulation. Hope that helps a little Best wishes Rod
  17. Hi Angela, great news, doing really well long may it continue Best wishes Rod
  18. Hi Zoe, Glad to hear Richards in rehab now, Merrill went through a whole range of emotions when i first brought her home, and depression was one of hers but i took her to the gp and they put her on a medication for it and a couple of weeks later she had picked up no end, so maybe if it persists you could talk to his doctor and see if they could give him something fo it, hope he soon picks up Good luck Rod
  19. Hi Blueday, Merrill my wife also has speech problems, some times she slurs or trips on the words and sometimes she runs out of breathe before she finishes a sentence, her speech problems seem to have got worse just latley though and she's now 13 months on, the rehab hospital are trying to get her a speech and language therapist but they say in our area they are like gold dust, anyway good luck to you with your recovery, Best wishes Rod
  20. Hi Saffy, hope the bed works out for you in 5 days,it will be good to put it behind you and start getting over that, well done on giving up smoking very hard tried a few times myself but when it comes to will power, for me it's in short supply, Best wishes Rod
  21. Hi Lynz, Merrill is 12 months down the line now and that is just how she is, but she now get good days and bad days and thats the way it seems for most, hope yours soon improve Best Wishes Rod
  22. Hi Dougie, and welcome to the site, I too am unable to give you any advice on your problem, but can only echoe what Karen wrote if your'e worried keep on at your gp, and i think i'm right in saying that under NHS rules if you are not happy with the diagnosis it is everyones right to ask for a second opinion and they are obliged to get you one. Best wishes Rod
  23. Hi Caroline, sorry to hear you're feeling down, Merrill had her sah just over a year ago, Merrill is still very indecisive, and cannot organize in anyway, she would be the first to tell you that, and as for buying a car and then not likeing it a few weeks later i think we've all done that, Merrill a year on still has no energy, tires very quickly, and still has 2 hours lay down every afternoon, and if she does'nt she is totaly wiped out for the rest of the day, I think nearly everyones situation seems to be different in some way or other there is no patern to recovery like a broken leg,Most of the time Merrill just laughs it off and accept how she is now, although i'm not always sure that accepting it is the right way to go because you lose that little bit of fight that is needed. Hope you are soon feeling a bit better about things Best wishes Rod
  24. Hi Zoe, glad to hear Richards back at Telford now, hope he comes on in leaps and bounds now, you certainly sound a lot happier Good luck to you both, Rod
  25. Hi Zoe, great news will be so much easier for you, Best wishes to you both, Rod
