  1. hi Bessie, hope you're well, i know it gets all very frustating,i'm carer to my wife she too has mobility problems, she ahs also had severe leg pains, at at the moment she has a bad right shouder, and she has had sll sorts of other aches and pains,,and iknow you are probably sick of hearing this (it's the old get me out clause) if you are worried talk to your gp, Good luck Rod
  2. Hi and welcome to BTG, i'm pretty sure that wha you are feeling is par for the course, but again if you are worried i would also say talk to your gp, recovery is different for every one and you seem to be doing very well, Good luck with your continued recovery,Rod
  3. Hi Godfrey 3 and welcome to the site i'm sure you'll get several answers on this one, my wife had an sah in march last year, and the surgeon said are either of you smokers and a said i was and he told me no more smoking near her i try to stick to that, i know other people who've had a SAH who have carried on smoking, but smoking is one of the things they say can contribute to an sah, my honest feeling on this is yes smoking is'nt good for anyone, but wot is, drinkings a no no eating a no no, and a surgeon will tell you that once the anuerysmn is dealt with, it's dealt with, so who can honestly say, sorry i can't be of more help, but i'm sure you will hear more than one opinion on this,Good luck to you and your husband, Rod
  4. Hi miss griff, and welcome to the site, sorry to hear of your mums sah, and her personality change, but this is not unusual, i don't know what advice to give you as i don't think you can change her back to the way she was, this is the new her,My wife merrill had an sah march 27th last year 2 anuerysms 1 clipped 1 coiled and then developed hydrocephalus, and her personality changed ,but for the better i think so, when change takes place it's not always for the worse, merrill never talks about her illness either and never has and this i find at times a bit frustating as i'm sure you do. this is a massive thing that has happened to your mum and i know you are aware of this, merrill goes to a rehab clinic who actually has me in now and then to council me as they say that this is like a berievement, the old merrill is gone and i have to accept the new one, merrill has speech, mobility, memory, and cognative thought problems but with all that she is here and alive, try to see the positives, they are alive and still with us,and we have to change a little to accomodate them, and that is not always easy, Good luck to you both Rod
  5. Hi Graham, and welcome to the site, sorry to hear about your sah, but don't be angry, the sah survivors on here are the lucky ones, and things will get easier for you as you go along, it is a life changing event,as many on this site will tell you but not all the changes are for the worse, my wife, and others i've spoken to are actually happier people since the sah than they were before, but maybe it takes a while to realise the positives, good luck Graham in your recovery, Best wishes Rod
  6. Hi Saffy, i think you have made a wise choice i know, with the little bit of knowledge i have gained during Merrills last year that would have been my choice, must seem ages away for you at the moment but it will soon go, Best wishes Rod
  7. Hiyer John, Merrill does'nt remember much of the last year, she has very little memory of her time in hospital but she says she can remember having a couple of dinners there (don't know if they are good memories or bad) Merrill tends to remember the special things (for want of a better way of putting it) we do or places we go but the every day things she still has trouble remembering, The hospital stay may not be a bad thing to forget as it's never going to be a good memory, but i can understand how that would bother you,i think Merrill oftengets confused with time because there is no memories of recent time hopefully that will improve with time, Good luck John, Rod
  8. Hi Bessie, sorry i can't say why your mum is confused i think it would be wrong for me to try and guess, but i can tell you that even after the shunt was fitted Merrill still experienced a certain amount of confusion, and still do nearly a year on so i should'nt be too alarmed by it (as i was) if you have concerns then i would ask your gp to take the time to try and explain it to you, Good luck Rod
  9. Hi thanks Karen for that we learn something everyday and I think i will give that site a look Paul, Hope think sort theirselves out for you Bessie, Good luck Rod.
  10. Hi my wife developed hydrocepahlus a month after i brought hers home, her started with just saying wierd things, i think, we caught it in the early stages , but there is a web site for hydrocephalus it is http://www.hydroassoc.org/ hope that helps best wishes Rod ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (some one tell me how i put that link in properly please so she could just click on it ) Hi Rod, open the website that you want to put a link to, in another tab of your browser - then select and copy the web page address in the top bar and then you can paste it into your post. You can also just type it in, as long as you include http://www. or the link won't work. Hope that makes sense.
  11. Hi Karen, Merrill took part ia a drug trial when she ahd her sah, it was some sort of statin which had for many years been used to aid recovery from heart problems they said that they thought it could aid the recovery from sah we signed all the papers and were told that she would get a phone call six months later to ask how she was doing and then they would send copies of the findings the her and her gp that never happened either, it does make me feel that they tend to use you a bit we know the research is needed but i feel the least they can do is to inform you as to the findings, Good luck for the 8th Karen we will be thinking of you, Rod
  12. Hi Heidi and welcome to the site, Merrill my wife is different from you, she had 2 anuerysms done coiled and clipped and other complications, but i think ithe same applies to you that there is no time scale to recovery it's just different for everyone and as have been said it is still fairly early days for you, Merrill suffered anxiety and mild panic attacks when she went out especially the supermarket or crowded places we mentioned it to her gp and he gave her medication and this helped in more ways than one, she's happier when she goes out and her sleep patterns improved, perhaps you could talk to your gp about some medication which may help, and you're not on it forever, Good luck Rod
  13. Hi Saffy, and welcome to the site, I can appreciate the problem you have, and you have to make this decision on very little knowledge, and only you can make this decision for you, what i do know is recovery from sah can be a much longer process, than recovering from a coiling, My wife had an sah last march so nearly a year on now and she still has mobility, memory, cognative thought and hearing problems with an sah it's a whole new set of problems, it's a decision only the individual can make for theirselves for me with the knowledge i have i would have it coiled, but you must talk to your consultant and then make your own mind up, Best wishes Rod
  14. Hi Phil, really pleased for you that things continue to improve, i know my self how uplifting the good days are, so fingers crossed for you Both that Sharons recovery continues Good luck Rod
  15. Hi Aakki, and welcome to the site,it is a very scarey time but you sound as though you are coping very well, and the fear of it happening again is something everyone goes through, but i don't know of anyone it has,Good luck with your recovery, Rod
  16. Hi Mike Merrill just recently finished attending a memory group at the rehab clinic and to be honest they come up with lots of strategies but the only one that was really helpfull is as Tina said set reminders on your mobile phone, Perhaps you could set a daily reminder just to fill in your diary, we found that it does'nt matter how good the strategy is even a reminder on a stick-it on the fridge, if you dont look at it, it does'nt work and at this moment Merrill is searching for her diary so there is always things that even your mobile can't remind you of, Good luck Rod
  17. Hi Kel, congrats on your return to work, and as have been said don't over do it and if it is too much don't be afraid to say and make changes, Good luck Rod
  18. Hi momo high blood pressure seems to be very much a part of this illness for some people, Merrill has been very high although I was told by a doc that he would not be concerned untill hers reach 240/over something she's now about 140/90 and thats how it's been for a while now they never seem to check it enough for me, so i bought a monitor and used to check it daily when i told the doc that i'd kept a record of her b/p but a few days were missing because the machine went wrong she said GOOD, i don't think she likes me interfering, anyway glad to hear you are getting on ok Best wishes Rod
  19. Hi and welcome, slow diagnoses seems to be quite common, my wifes sah happened very quickly and she was taken in as an emergency and i sometimes think she was lucky that it happened how it did, she had minor problems with her eyes but different from your so sorry can't help you there, and again i think i'm right in saying depression and anxiety are quite common, It is still quite early days for you, and you seem to be doing well just to be on here posting Good luck with your recovery Rod
  20. Hi Diane glad everything went well, we all worry but it usually turns out all good, i'm sure the headaches will improve as time goes on, Good luck Rod
  21. Hi Laanka, sorry to hear you 've been messed about a bit must be annoying when you get yourself all keyed up and then nothing happen but fingers crossed for next week that it goes ahead then, I'm sure you have nothing to worry about but being human we do ,don't we, Best wishes for next week and let us know when you are up and about again, Rod
  22. Hi Laura i would get them to write the reports because even if they don't give it to her now in your position i would go to appeal, so if you get thier reports now and copy them if there is an appeal you will have everything in place Good luck with that Rod
  23. Hi Mike and welcome, yes not the best way to spend christmas, you sound as though you are doing brilliantly, and yes after care often lack lustre as you put it, my wife has very good after care but from what i read more often than not this is not the case, anyway mike hope you continue to make a good recovery, Good luck Rod
  24. Hi Diane, sorry to hear about Mark, I'm a carer and i know i went into panic mode everytime Merrill was under the weather, she had headaches at first,(luckily not too bad now) and even now she feels spaced out she describes it as though the world goes on and she's an onlooker, I think it's only natural to worry at first i know i did and although i still worry it's got easier and you learn to take it in your stride a bit more, hopefully this week will see something get sorted, but headaches you read about all the time and the spaced out feeling is common, so try not to worry too much and let us know how he gets on. Best wishes Rod
  25. Hi Debi, merrill my wife is now 11 months on since her sah and she still has problems with her speech, often in the evening she seems to run out of breath before she finishes what she's saying and often slurs her words a little, and this i've only just started to notice just latley but often her spelling is wrong and her hand writing very shakey, I spoke to the o/t about Merrills speech and she's now being refered to a speech and language therapist perhaps you couls speak to one of the people who helps you to see if you can get a referal to some one who could help you Best wishes Debi, Rod
