  1. Hi Jane Welcome to behind the gray. I cant answer your question, there are many others on here who will answer it for you, but if you are concerned you can always ring up the consultants secretary and ask her what is required and explain that you haven't had the results of the scan and you are concerned. I believe you will get a response to settle your mind to rest. I dont think you are paranoid, just concerned because of what you have gone through , others on here will help you through this time and hopefully put your mind at rest again. Welcome and enjoy your new friends and look around the site ,there is a wealth of information on here good luck on your recovery.
  2. The information i have been given is that a normal person should drink between 2 to 3 ltrs of fluid each day in normal temperatures and when hot, this goes up to 4 ltrs per day, due to perspiration and dehydrating, through sweat and body temperature levels. This can be tea or any other drink except excessive coffee and drinks like red bull ,which have a very high content of caffeine, which is a stimulus and have actually been responsible for people over dosing on caffeine which does set the heart rate into overdrive and can cause heart failure . The caffeine not only keeps you awake but can harm the bodies organs through overdosing . Water flushes out toxins within the body, as does tea low in caffeine but high in tannin, which stimulates the kidneys to flush the body of toxins. I cant answer about the headaches and why some get relief from caffeine boost or why some dont , but i think it may be down to which part of the brain triggers the migraine, but will try and find out . I think if i remember, a friend who suffered migraines cut out cheese and coffee and has never suffered a migraine since. take care
  3. have been useing ice for a long time we started using it in london many years ago and it works most if all medical and police know what to look for and i beleive the fire birgade also are aware of ice it is a very vauleable asset and does help medical staff 1 recommedation is make ice the person who knows your medical details and history and is aware that you have put them down as your ice contact there are many people who are not aware they have been made aware of ice and phones have been left at home or turned off therefore making it usless so please make sure you inform the contact they are the first to be called due to ice. Nice to see its taking off worldwide and its been spread by word of mouth

    I m helpless

hi kaantay welcome to btg im sorry to hear about mum and what you are going through i am in the same situation but seven months down the line with the same prognoisise the brain is a very complex organ and has suffered a massive injury and it could take up to a month or so before the pressure reduces before mum settles all i could do was hold her hand and talk to her moving her fingers and hand to let her know i was there you can only talk to the consultant who is dealing with mum but if you feel mum might pull through then support her with talking and touching her thats all that kept me sane behind the grey kept me sane and allowed me to rant and rave when i found it hard going i found it better as i kept a diary which i filled in daily what she was going through and what was going on in the outside world so that down the line she could read it or have it read to her if she is unable to read it im stilll keeping it up to date and im now into the second volume all you can do at this difficult time is to hold hands talk to her as the hearing is normally the last thing to shut down so you might be able to get through you say that you think mum will pull through your faith will guide you but please be aware that mum might decide she's to tired but if you talk to her and touch her it might get through it is a very very difficult time because we or you have no control its all down to mum and the dr who are supporting her and until the brain pressure starts to reduce noone will know whats going to happen think of nice times with mum the funnier the better and describe them to her and in time you might get a response but in all honesty it is very very early days i didnt get to see any improvement in lin for over a month you didnt say where you were in the country but as you say you are not going to give up and quite rightly but there is that horrible spectre hanging but by supporting mum talking and touching is all anyone can do untill the swelling goes down btg are a fantastic group they are surviors and carers of sah who care for people like us and offer there hands and thoughts and advice even though its not medical they have been through what we are going through we can rant and rave its twentyfour hours opening time and believe me it helps my thoughts are with you and my heart goes out to you at this difficult time you can pm me anytime but everyone on here will be praying for you to give you strenght to help you through this nightmare because thy have been through it before take care hugs and cuddles

  14. hi nurianna please be down dont forget you have gone through an ordeal which has shocked you so much all you have done is lose some muscle tone which has caused you to add a couple of pounds on which in all honesty is nothing a little excersise would soon restore your earlier svelt body many years ago i was in a wheelchair for two years and my weight gained quite a bit but my phyiso worked me so hard {i hated her rotten } but soon my weight fell off to 11stone seven for many a year its only the last few years its atarted to creep back on you will feel much the same as soon as your pyhiso will work you hard when the time is right and you will get your body back muscle tone can be restored very quicky once you start properly please dont feel to bad i will send you a hug and cuddle with the promise it will get better when he starts working on you in earnest promise as for the hair lin was brunnette before her sah now lin is totaly grey and her hair is growing back thicker than it was before i like you would love to restore lins hair back the way it was but she has to undergo more surgery to replace her skull but when its done i will try to get in done because lin was very particular about her appearence and very proud of her looks next time look in the mirror and imagine as you work which bit you want to work on and imagaine how you are going to look when you have completed it you might even get a bigger surprise when you complete your rehab go for it girl and imagine how stunning you will look in the not to distant future and go for it pamper yourself happy christmas and new year
  15. hi nurianna this sounds like a tens machine which aleivates pain from muscles which have had good comments by most users are you able to confirm that the machine is a tens machine as it stimulates the muscle only and relieves any pain you may have when turning your neck and as it only uses batteries so therefore shouldnt cause any problems a lot of people use the machine for pain relief for many reasons and and in varoius places on the body in fact could be an aid to reduce your bp because with pain bp goes up but from what you have said if you can confirm its a tens machine i think you may be onto a winner if it works for you if i remember the power is local and is dissapated when it enters the muscle so i beleive it shouldnt be a problem for the surgeon in fact he might even be pleased for you i know you can buy them from variuos places go for it girl enjoy

  20. hi nyx welcome to bhg i hope mum is ok and im sorry to hear about mum theres got to be something about the age of 60 it is very early days my lin had hers in august this year and it been a hell of a roller coaster ride i was given the worst possible news but my darling is still with me and im still there for her you are going to go through horrible periods but as long as mum fights for her self you will find everyday something new lin was out of it for over four weeks all i can say is take each day as it comes if you have questions ask them at the hospital you will find a particular dr will come to the forefront and untill mum comes out of icu all you will see are nuerosurgeons when she is transferred to a ward then you will have a dedicated dr nuerogist who will take mum through the recovery i have found out through practice they just dont know whats going to happen it will only be time i can only use my experinance of what i have seen with lin each day theres something new but its also very confusing as well just hang in there and take one day at a time most frustrating believe me but its who mum makes the running hold in there best wishs if you want to contact me by all means pm me take care and good luck lots of hugs and cuddles
  21. caffine is a stimulant to the brain thats why when people want to stay awake all night the one thing they do is drink coffee to keep awake therefore in moderation and not just before you go to bed he he take care
  22. michelle the medical you are going to is basicly a dept of health dr who will ask you if you can do certain things to find out if you are fit to work and if he can get you off incapicty benifits therefore cut down the number of claiments goventment wants to do away with incapcity benifits all together and they are cutting down fairly hard one thing is that the answers you give also inform him if you are a genunine person one thing i will say if you are disabled in any shape from a sah or stroke you are perfectly entiled to claim disabilty living allowance which takes you off incapaicty benifts and you will not have to be medicaly examined every year they will come and see you at home and therefore make a judgement when they see you moving around indoors dont be brave and try and do everything because on a bad day as you say you cant do hardly anything just be honest some people can even on dla manage to work without being penelised you can work some hours before they stop dla if you get dla you may also be entitled to attendence allowance and mobiltiy allowance and also carers allowance you will not get better overnight and as everyone has said it takes time therefore consider DLA i have filled many forms in for people who have had strokes and worse it does help with extra care personnal and carers coming in to help you i hope this helps you michelle any questions please dont hesitate to contact me best wishs and just be relaxed and try not to worry
  23. hi beth im pleased you have the information you have and that it puts your mind to rest elthough there are worries ahead but they seem to be caring drs so i hope it sooner rather than later for you so you can resume normal life and enjoy best wishs hugs and cuddles
