One year today

Exactly one year to the day when my world changed but I made it. Had my yearly check up and the doctor says the coiling has impacted and that there is a balloon developing at the base, so they will be having me back in within two months to repack the coiling and fit a stent and also consider what to do, if anything, about two other small aneurysms on the right side, but they haven't increased in size since April  so that's up to the team to decide.

My short term memory seems to have improved in the last few months, I find keeping a diary helps, not just of what I've done but how I am feeling, depressed, confused or happy. I try to do brain games on the iPad, find the word, join the letters, solitaire etc.

I  get really nervous going into busy places, my self confidence has really taken a knock, must have somebody with me otherwise it's like brain says enough is enough, too much information so get me out of here. But, and it's an important but, I'm still me inside.

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and hope we all have a wonderful next year.

Thanks for sharing now that you are one year post SAH.

Great to hear that you are positively facing the challenges before you and you can be confident that your medics will assess these results and offer you the best advice on the treatment required

Well done for challenging your brain with these games.  One year is the first milestone on your journey and time does bring progress in your healing.

The next two months will be an anxious time for you and I wish you every strength to face these procedures.

Hi Angela,

I have had epilepsy since 14 puberty so I thought okay God wont let anything else happen to me !! Wrong in 2009 I had an SAH4 and I never knew anything until I woke up after shunt had been put in to stop hydrocephalus...apart from walking I was doing okay then 1 day I had a really bad seizure not the normal ones I have.  Saw my Epilepsy specialist,   he said we will give you an MRI so I had it and he wrote to me saying 2 chronic bleeds but nothing to worry about.

Well putting it mildly I was sooo scared ..this was me "A chronic bleed and nothing to worry about oh my and a few tears" what will I do couldn't talk about it.  I wanted to just be sorry for myself ...looked up chronic bleed and it said not as bad as acute, I was so scared through that time  I wanted to feel sad for myself.

Got over that bit and now getting on with life and I am long winded but wishing you all the best as they have spotted it and will keep an eye on it and I will not tell you not to worry but stress doesn't help us so I sing happy songs when on a downer, so I hope all turns out okay for you and all will be okay.  Let us know how you are xxxxx

Win who was one scared old dear lol xxxx

Hi Angela,

It is a long road that gets us to one year out.   It was an ever changing year for me and I felt I had reached a mile stone when it arrived, still realizing I still had a journey before me.  As I get close to my second year in May I realize I am still making strides and also that I am getting to accept some of the changes within me.

You are doing so well working to improve with brain games and keeping a diary.  I hear your struggle with self confidence.  I struggled with that as well but have gotten so I can go to the store alone but it can be too much when busy and I have to rest when I get home.  It is all one foot in front of the other everyday.

I hope all goes well for you and you recover quickly.  Take care and please know you have a place here to talk, vent or just to say HI...

Sincerely,

Jean

Hi Angela,

Congratulations on reaching the one year milestone!

Yes , you still have problems but on the bright side, they are able to do something about them, which is not always the case!  Try to look at the longer term benefits rather than the short term angst.

Once the procedures are done, they're done and you can look forward with confidence that there will be continual improvement and a better future ahead.

Great news that you are keeping a diary.  It works.  Another technique I find useful with things I want to remember is to keep on repeating them  until they transfer into your longer term memory.  Using your diary will help with this too if you keep writing things down and looking at it frequently!

Good luck and I wish you well in your treatment programme!

Thank you all so much for taking the time to read my little story, it’s so nice realizing that there are people who understand what I’m going through, I’m sure because I look the same on the outside people who don’t know me well don’t realize the changes that have happened on the inside.  Trying not to get too stressed about the procedure, the worst part is the waiting and the what if?  Thank you all for being there. Xxxx

Congratulations on your one year anniversary!!! I just had my second anniversary on October 26, and I still get overwhelmed with places that are too loud and busy.

It is much better than it used to be, that is for sure.  It will get better for you too, and slowly but surely your confidence will build up😊. Main thing is to listen to your body, and respond accordingly.

Wishing you good good luck with the procedures you are waiting on.  Don’t forget to let us know how you are doing.

Sending you positive energy.

hugs, Pat 🤗
