    memory

Hello Di, My short term and mid term memory have been affected by my SAH and yesterday I was at the National neurological hospital in London. The doctor there told me that if I had said my SAH was twenty years ago she would tell me that it won't get any better, but three and a half years is not long in terms of brain recovery and my memory should slowly improve. So maybe your hubby needs a bit more time She also said, doing soduko, word games etc would help. Also when meeting somebody new, to keep saying their name in my head to try and make it stick! Hope this helps Vivien

  10. Helo Amelia and so sorry to hear that your Mum died from her SAH. I know that my biggest worry was what would happen to my daughter if I died because she relies on me so much. It must have made your Mum so proud that you are doing so well with your life and she can rest easy that you are ok, even though you must be missing her terribly at the moment. Vivien x

  12. Hello Sandi and welcome to the site Nothing to add to what the others have said really, just be easy on yourself, you have been through a lot. Vivien x
  13. I always loved the cinema, but when first out of hospital I could barely watch a small tv! Worked my way up over time to a big tv and then the cinema I sit right at the back and don't look if there is too much going on onscreen, and now really enjoy it again. It is a bit loud but I can cope with it. Vivien
  14. No Idea! I do get occasional dizzy feelings, pains that come and go and tinnitus. I find it very hard to tell wether I have just become over sensitised to every slight change or wether it is something to do with the SAH. I do now tend to ignore most of them and put them down to the after effects, which is why I did not tell the doc about my eye ache and now I have to go see the neuro surgeon! So I think you are right to get in touch with your doctor to see what they say. Good Luck Vivien
  15. For the past couple of months I have had pain in my left eye, kind of round the socket and it is a bit puffy and dark ( I use a lot of concealer ). I went to the docs and he thought it might be an infection behind my eye, so I had antibiotics and was told to come back if it didn't go away. I finally went back to see the gp this week, it was a locum doctor. When he found out my history of having had an SAH and having dystonia, he sent me for urgent blood tests, which came back normal and an eye test, which was normal except that I need reading glasses He phoned me yesterday morning and is referring me back to the neuro surgeon! I know in my rational head that it is more than likely to do with my sinuses, but my panicking head is going into overdrive, wondering why I have to go back to the neuro. Anyone else had eye pain or have any idea why I have to go back to the hospital? Vivien x
  16. Hi Steph, sorry to hear about the complications, must be a worrying time. Hope they decide something soon and that it all goes well for you.
  17. Great t - shirt! I want one! I have the Headway card and always carry it with me, gives a sense of security somehow, even though I have never had to show it. Vivien
  18. Hello Pete and welcome to the site You are doing remarkably well, and I agree with the others, try and listen to your body. I also was told nothing of what expect after being discharged from hospital except one doctor told me that it takes a long time both emotionally and physically to recover. When I asked how long, I was told ' How long is a piece of string' so basically everyone is different and they don't know. Vivien
  19. Hi Kaz and welcome to the site, you have been through a major trauma, so being anxious is a pretty normal rexponse! It takes time and for some of us, counselling as well, to come to terms with it and not have the constant worry that it is going to happen again. It does get better Vivien
  20. Hi there, I am 3 and a half years from my SAH, and yes I sometimes feel that I am getting worse, staggering a bit today in fact I reckon that it is because I am actually doing more as time goes on, so have more stuff to remember ( or forget!) and also I probably don't listen to my body enough and rest when I am tired. If you are worried maybe go see your GP? Take Care Vivien x
  21. Great News have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
  22. Hi Bay, welcome to the site I have to say that it really is quite early into your recovery, and it does take a long time to recover, both physically and emotionally. A good bit of advice is to listen to your body and rest as much as you can, and also drink lots of water. Hard, when you have children, and household stuff to do! I am three and a half years from my SAH and I still get frustrated by my memory problems, but most of the time manage to laugh about it, and people close to me know about it and help me out if I get stuck. Headway are good people to get in touch with and also possibly seeing a counsellor might help . Hope this helps Vivien
  23. Great news Neil. Best wishes for the future Vivien x
