  1. Hi Lin-Lin, I am so glad to read your post and know that you are feeling better. Don't feel foolish, it was your experience at the time, an SAH is a scary life changing event. Vivien x

    Hello

Hi Ash, sorry to hear your mum has been so ill, but as the others have said, it is a slow road to recovery and from what you have posted it seems like she is improving. Hope your Dad gets better soon. I had quite a lot of visitors once I was out of intensive care, I would open my eyes and see my son and daughter, then I would open my eyes again and my best friend would be there! It was confusing but comforting Take care of yourself Vivien x
  4. Hello Lin Lin I think the first few months for me were spent battling the physical effects and not really noticing the emotional effects. It didn't really hit me about what had happened until about 6 months on, I also had insomnia ( still do a bit) and awful dreams when I did sleep. I saw my doctor who thought I might have Post Traumatic Stress disorder and so he sent me to a counsellor. This has helped me enormously and I still go but only a couple of times a year now. It sounds like you are doing all the right things to help your recovery, and are coping well with the upheaval of not having a job. So maybe a bit of counselling might help you emotionally. The neuro surgeon who is my consultant said that it takes a long time both physically and emotionally to recover from an SAH. Hope this helps Vivien
  5. Glad to hear that things have been resolved Good Luck Vivien x

    memory

Hello Diane, sorry to hear of Mark's memory problems. When I first had my SAH I could not remember my husbands name although I knew who he was. Now 3 years on my memory has improved but is still pretty bad and I have learned how to cope with it, although it is very frustrating at times. I did have counselling and still go twice a year just to help me with ongoing problems. It must be very hard for you, maybe a visit to the gp might help you get some help Vivien x
  9. Hello Georgina and welcome to the site I sometimes look after my grandson ( I am 54 and he is 5 ) and it definitely wears me out and I have to rest after he has gone. At the moment I have had a headache for three weeks, not really bad but just there all the time and worse some days than others. I did start to worry and went to see my gp, who did all the usual checks, looking in my eyes, bp etc. He reckons that they are triggered by my hayfever and that because of having an SAH I will always be prone to headaches. I accept this and am trying to get on with things, but like you there is a slight niggly worry that it is something more! Heres hoping you feel better soon Vivien x
  10. Glad to hear that all is well Vivien x

  14. Welcome to the site Bubbles I think I only posted one line at a time when I first found this site. Now after 3 years I can sometimes write a whole paragraph! Vivien x
  15. Hello Kylie and welcome to the site I also gave up caffeine and drink decaff tea, with only the odd 'normal' cup if I am out. I was eating grilled fish when my SAH came on and I was sick, I thought I had food poisoning and blamed my husband for not cooking it properly! I have not eaten it since Vivien x
  16. Hello Caroline and congratulations on your 2 year anni-versary and glad to hear that you are recovering well. I also have taken up photography as a new hobby I used to have a springer spaniel and did gun dog training with her for many years, it was great fun and very rewarding, my dog loved doing it as well. Vivien x
  17. Katie, my daughter is 25 and has BPD, I was told that she will grow out of it, she also had CBT which definitely helped From your posts I reckon that you are coping very well with it and are getting better as you get more understanding of how your mind works. Good Luck Vivien x
  18. Welcome to the site Haydn, sorry but I am another who did not do much physically before my SAH. However it has taken me three years to be nearly back to the fitness level I had before ( which wasn't much!) Vivien x
  19. Welcome to the site Katie I suffered terrible insomnia the first 18 months after my SAH, it has slowly got better, but I still get the odd sleepless night. I also suffered from depression and went for counselling, which helped. Yes, we do understand Vivien x
  20. Hello and welcome to the site Lisa I went to Headway and they were really good and helpful, someone came to see me at home and phoned me regularly to see how I was getting on. Now, three years later I am hoping to help raise some funds for Headway by being sponsored for their dogathon! Vivien x
  21. Hello and Happy Birthday Sounds like you are doing all the right things and the headaches will ease in time Vivien x
  22. Hello Maggie and welcome to the site Was good to read your story Vivien x
  23. Hello TB30 I suffered from sickness and nausea in the hospital and so they stopped the medication they had given me to keep stools soft I think. It persisted and I was discharged with two lots of tablets for nausea ( sorry I can't remember what they were). It did pass over time and now I have put loads of weight on! I hope your mum feels better soon. I also sipped lemon and ginger tea and nibbled rich tea biscuits. Vivien x
