Hi Sasbo,

Glad that it's just not me ...... I'm not sure whether I've started the menopause yet either, or whether the symptoms are SAH related .... but boy, I will surely look forward to not having any more periods ..... definetly get more grumpy now and the head and dizzy spells are a lot worse, before and during.. xx

Hi Donna

Not sure what is happening at the moment, did not have a period for 6 months, when i did was really painful, but not heavy for a change, then had two in one month......all over the place...I never have been grumpy, just get more emotional, and sensitive  the week before. God knows whats happening, i had a test, and also going through the change...all good fun :D:D

Hi Tina,

My periods also stopped for about 3 months after the SAH ..... It was quite good in one sense, but they did return with a vengeance....like you and Sasbo, I experience more pain than I used to when they returned ..... might ask the GP to do a blood test on me and see if I'm going through the change....it's hard to know what to put things down to...

Hi Karen

Like you, not sure if it's 'that time' as I can get all the symptoms we've been talking about and then.....nothing which is very confusing! This can go on for a two or three months and then back to regular and so on. God certainly had a warped sense of humour when he designed women!

Sasbo

Hi Donna,

I don't have periods any more. I used to have very bad painful periods, and very heavy. Eventually because I kept returning to my G.P. for help I was referred to a consultant. She offered me an Edometrial ablation. (It is only offered to woman who have decided they don't want anymore children) It is the removal of the womb lining, and thus resulting in no more periods. I had this operation done two years ago.

You could still end up pregnant though, if you don't use contraception, but you would be very ill as the baby hasn't any where to attach it self too. So you always have to keep this in mind.

I may add, that I was told by the surgeon that it, Edometrial ablation, doesn't work with every woman, but lordy lord, it did with me. I haven't had a period since, bliss. :D It is called an alternative to a Hysterectomy.

However, I still know when my period would be because I get the very same feelings I got before, but never ever a sore tummy. May be a headache, or feeling tired, and backache.

But, bliss it is. I can go on my holidays, and never worry.

Take care Donna,

H xx

Holly, that's very interesting ..... I've always had heavy, fairly painful periods that will last for 7 days ..... but the pill used to help to keep the pain down, but I now find that I'm pretty much like I was during teenage years......it kind of cuts out a week each month, as I don't feel that I can do very much, which is such a waste. The Doc offered me the Mirena (spelling?) coil, which can often do the trick and stop you from having periods, but one of the side effects is ovarian cysts, so it wasn't an option in my book, as when a cyst ruptures, it's like giving birth without the baby....

Ha! Cat amongst the pidgeons now.......you all want to get this done......heeeee!!! :D

I would certainly recommend it. It is fantastic. In my job I visit people in their own homes, and you know how it is when you are having heavy periods, I just felt ill at ease all of the time.

Take care huns,

Guest Shiree

Hiya Donna

I don't know what brands you would have over your side of the world, but I have what is called a "Merina".

It is a small plastic device that is inserted into the cervix and slowly releases estrogen/ostrogen over a five year time frame. I have had this for nearly 7 yrs now and dont get periods at all, it is a contraceptive, and you can just have it removed if you want to get pregnant. Its fantastic for me...can you imagine being a truck driver and being out in the back of nowhere with a heavy period to deal with......

Take care my friend

Hey Shiree

Yeah I have the Mirena as well - had if for four years now and never had a period since. I still get the tummy pain when ovulating but no period - bliss!!! Another side affect is weight gain, but up until after my SAH I didn't gain any weight and have regular coil checks with the Doc.

Off into town - again - with Siobhan - she now needs new trainers!!!

Sorry for resurrecting this old thread but my PMT and periods are horrendous now and I was starting to worry that it meant something was wrong with my brain.

I used to get fairly bad periods before the injury but now I get dizziness, feel away with the fairies, anxiety and headaches. It's the dizziness and headaches that scare me because it makes me think it's all happening again even though logically I know it's a monthly occurrence and it will pass. I need to be able to let these things happen but my hyper vigilance from PTSD is convinced everything is DANGER! I hate it because I just start to get on an even keel with everything and then the PMT hits and I feel like I have to start again every month.

Any tips to get through this horrid time of the month aside from hiding in bed?! I take vitamin B6 already and meditate daily.

Lauren perhaps you need to get a hormone profile done, sometimes you can get damage to the pituitary gland with an SAH. I had mine done as I was sweltering in hot weather and freezing in cooler weather. I've also started taking a good all round vit supplement, perhaps worth considering but your first port of call should be your gp x

My hormones were affected after the SAH and my periods stopped for a few months and came back with a vengeance. As Gill (bagpuss) has said, the Pituitary gland is close to the Circle of Willis, where a SAH bleed occurs.

Gill has offered good advice... don't suffer and go and have a chat with your GP. I was tested and was found to be low in Folic acid, Iron which needed to be replaced. My periods have always been heavy, so a lack of Iron due to this can contribute to your fatigue/dizziness.

I'm not sure what age you are, but I think that I was also peri-menopausal which didn't help.

Good luck and I know exactly how you're feeling with the dizziness and the menstrual headache as everything is heightened and in the early months it does cause a huge amount of anxiety. xx
