  2. hello karen this is a nightmare for you both hubby having trouble and you not being able to be constructive it is still early days for you both hubby is still suffering from the bleed and trying to ajust to what is and has been happening to him i have the odd day where lin kicks off and i found it hard to deal with i have now mastered the episodes where lin has her bouts the next few months are going to be a huge roller coaster as hubby starts to recover have you spoken to the neurosurgeon since or a neurologist they will be able to guide you and tell you where the damage occured within the brain do you know which area the bleed was ? there are other things to consider having hubby home do you have children at home it is a hard question to ask that is would you be able to cope comfortably with hubby at home taking the behaivor into question and his current condition one thing is that hubbys stroke could have been because of a vasospasm which he may have suffered but which can be short term lasting with phyiso if he comes home that may stop or reduced enouogh to be ineffective for him . i wanted lin home big time but even though im fit and somewhat healthy the hospital placed her into a home i spend everyday with her all day i know that she is being well looked after and although i miss her at the flat im in i can still bring her home for day trips and im able to get her out and about wih a bit of pestering please dont let the hospital force you into having hubby home before you have done some really deep soul thinking and what is best for hubby and yourself you cant run yourself into the ground ive been there and got the tee shirt karen there is so much more to offer i will send you a private message and my number take care hugs and cuddles from lin and me
  3. daffodil dont forget the crying is one of the early stages of recovery ive allowed lins hair to grow a tiny bit at the back so it hides the tube although unless you know its there it is invisable lin has the tellytubby hole at the front of her skull which the hair covers well
  4. hi daffodil welcome to btg my lin has a shunt which was put in because of hydrochplus which a dr didnt want to treat she has an adjustable one i know the benefits once they get the setting right to allow the right amount of cfs the fluid surrounding the brain to remain it is time consuming but the benefit you will see will be a pleasure please try and put up with the discomfort it wil be worth the effort lins coma scale was three before they put the shunt in when she woke up after the op it went up to 11 so a massive improvement so chin up and give us a smile its worth it take care
  5. hi shawcar oooh i could smack your bottom for you your not a basket case you are a person who has dealt with allsorts during your job and been able to compartmentalize everything you have dealt with job wise and as a medical person for over thirty five years and dealt with some horrible stuff when i came to my lin i held it together for 10 mins untill help arrived then fell apart because of your brain injury you need to recover you are so early in your recovery you are still trying to get your head around what has happened the crying is part of the healing process ive done buckets and i have never done or been a sentimental person but now i am so stop knocking yourself please i would take your restart at work very slowly because your not sleeping well i would talk to your hr dept and get support from them including your occupatonal health staff who should be monitering you so you dont overdo it i read this site every day but i dont post every day each person reacts differently and everyone needs are different as well just remember we are here for you as and when you need us if you want to fly off the handle so be it just remember you are not alone and the fact that many have gone before you and survived to help others like yourself who is just taking baby steps in recovery so chin up and give us a smile lol
  6. hi panamacane welcome to the site i understand the concerns about dad the infection needs to be dealt with before anything else can be done to dad with the phyiso he should be getting hopefully the infection on his chest should clear up if i remember the anti biotics take seven to ten days to clear infections and takes a day or so to kick in your dad has more problems than normal but hopefully he wil improve over the next few days and be in a better situation for uab icu's are always busy no matter where you live in the world there are never enough beds ever but hopefully dad will carry on the fight the fact he was strong enough to open his eyes for ten minutes show's he hasnt given up i wish you both well and the news improves daily take care hugs and cuddles from across the pond
  7. sue i didnt get your reply could you call me tonight does your brother live in the midlands or lancs
  8. patsy ring the secretary every day he will soon answer the dvla
  9. hello sue your sister has been through the mill to say the least she has multiple problems which seem to overload the recovery of the sah as someone who has a partner who has suffered a severe sah and vasospasm and so desperatly wanted her home i in hindsite was overruled lin is now in a nursing /care home where i can spend all day being with her doing things together had she been home like your brother in law i would have collapsed because of the work involved .even with carers coming in three times a day lin being looked after so well i have peace of mind and although im so mentaly tired when i come homei know that lin is being looked after 24/7 i dont think you are being pushy maybe afraid of whats going on and not being able to help effectivly because your not only worried about your sisiter i think you know that brother in law is out of his depth and dosnt know it i think in all honesty that you need to speak to the dr looking after her at the hospital the neurosurgeon at least and also talk to rehab people at the hospital and occupation therapy people and voice your concerns with the brother in law as you say things are going from bad to worse i would also talk to the social worker and ask for help under the best interest clause of social workers disabled unit either local or hospital this situation appears to have some concerns i will email my number so if you wish to have a chat the uti does your sister drink a lot of water or fruit juice there is a lot more i can suggest but if you give me a call i will try and help take care i wish your sister well
  10. hi shellie welcome to btg you are so early in your recovery its going to take time ajusting to what has happened listen to your body that is the only way to start you will proberly feel yuck for a few weeks yet hence listen to your body sleep when you get the urge. by pushing yourself could lead to doing more harm than good keep up your fluid intake to keep yourself hydrated this may also help reduce the headaches but no promise's you will find more info on the site and many more wil come on later take care and be carefull over there its lovely to have you here take care
  11. you were playing football with the anni before i know how you feel but a chat to the dr and find out how the land lies but it would be prudent to be carefull i cant remember if you had them coiled or it was surgery if its the latter i would be carefull talk to the dr and heed his advice even if its not what you want to hear take care and be carefull this weekend lol
  12. its normal for someone who has suffered epilepsy to have their license revoked for a year after the last episode if you do not suffer fits within a year you can ask for the license to be renewed you will need your dr to confirm that you havent had a fit within that year hope this helps
  13. lins was the middle cerbal artery the whole lenght crainiotomy clipped she has another on the left side been left alone
  14. hi pete and chris it is very early days in your wifes recovery and im chuffed she appears not to have a great deal of after effects. the tiredness and fatigue is so normal and only time will tell and she is the only one who can decide on what she can do all you can do is be there for her its all to easy to over protect anyone who has suffered an sah as long as she does it slowly and steady she will be ok all you can do is watch and try not to bite your finger nails its up to the mrs just be there for her the smell problem may come back over time but as many drs dont really know whats going to happen with the brain and in all honesty i dont think they fully understand what the brain is capable when it starts to recover as for the epilepsy it is a possible normal reaction to an sah i know lin was on anti epliplesy drugs as a precaution but they have been removed for over two years without any fits. if your wife does have a fit just lower her onto the floor in the recovery position and protect her head untill she comes round god forbid that she does suffer but if she does she will need to be taken to hospital so it can be dealt with and the drugs to be supplied to keep it under control but if there are no fits then time is a great healer i wish you both well and congratulations on her recovery take care
  15. hi cfw i feel for you big time my lin collapsed in 2008 i have never given up hope you havent given much detail about hubbys sah lins was a class 5+ bleed and after the neurosurgeon gave her her life back unfortunantly the other hosptal didnt do their best but after nearly four years and my constant support lin is now moving on to hopefully better things because a new team see what i have seen for such a long time it is a massive shock and yes you do go off into your own world i know i did it does get better there is a rollercoaster ride ahead but as time goes on things hopefully get better i know thats what im hoping for i cant say what going to happen in the next year but its got to be better than it is now you have to stay optimistic and say things will get better because you cant dwell on what might happen it would send you into a spiral which you will never get out of and would pull you down so far the words that i hate is stay strong but all i can say is it will get better no matter what so chin up we are here anytime for support no matter what take care regards to hubby
  16. hi alison the op is just cut the skin screw the flap or plate in situ the skull does not have any pain as its bone now we all know that you watch in the night garden signs of a misspent youth he he i wish chris and yourself well take care
  17. hi alison lin has had her skull removed due to her sah and they needed to leave it out after three nearly four years i requested that lin be refered to another hospital who is now going to put a titainium plate in within the next few weeks she has been measured and the plate is now ready there were concerns over an eeg but this has now been resoloved lins bone flap is still within the abdomen they have decided that the risk of infection was to great and that the bone flap would have had the edges disolved so its being left in place hence the titainium plate lin has problems because the atmospheics are playing havoc with lin and is having a detrimental effect on her i believe the flap is normally replaced after six to nine months depending on the patients condition and need you can ask the neurosurgeon when he is going to replace the flap basicly its a lesser operation than clipping but as with all operations there is that horrible risk which scares the pants off me but if its going to possibly give lin her best chance then its worth it i found the new drs very caring and willing to do whatever they can for lin if i can be of any help please let me know take care
  18. hello mark im pleased your wife and yourself have been given the information you required and that it has put your mind to rest to a certain degree i used to do repatritation of patients for insurance companies as a paramedic and flight medic and cyprus unfortunantly doe's lack quite a bit of medical skills and i would agree with the doctor having repatriated over thirty case's from there it would be prudent to listen to his advice because of the lack of intensive care services all neuro pateints are air lifted out of country every time it will take time to get over the op but think of the great holiday to come and the freedom of the threat of the question what if it is a hard choice but the life you will be able to lead will after is somthing to look forwards to i wish your wife well and hope all things go well
  19. hi mark i answered your message in linda's thred sorry i didnt see this thread until i answered yours mini strokes are different than sah mini strokes can be treated with a drug to open the blood vessels by disolving the clots whereas sah are only treated by coils and clips i see you are going to the walton centre good place from what i have been told i did try to get linda there you certainly need answers but i wish you both well and hope you get some answers
  20. hi claire i understand how you feel you can pay for a private consultation i think its between £25-50 pounds as a one off but then you could ask him to treat you under the nhs but i think you would have to pay for any scans done i will answer some of your worries in a pm take care xx
  21. clareycro i have sent you a pm i would go to the hospital again and ask to go to the eye dept if it has an eye casulty and get them to check your eyes may i ask why you are under the immunology dept is it because of your sah i dont understand why they are treating this way if one person says you need to stay who in their right mind would counter that choice i hope you have his name one other thing someone brought up the paper bag does work for hyperventilaion if its held over the nose and mouth and help by the person suffering from hyperventilation i have used the paper bag many times in my career
  22. linsey it is some time since you were diagnoised medical treatment has hopefully changed and the understanding of ME has moved on i know the drs are more than willing to presrcribe anti depressents where they are not approprate but there are drs who specialise in ME it would be worth doing a sweep of the net for that special dr and ask to be reffered by your gp chin up and take care
  23. hi lynsey im sorry to hear that you are having problems reading your post i would be wanting to see the gp and have some blood tests just to rule out any problems if they find anything then they can start treatment before you see the dr at the hospital but it seems like the ME could have kicked in the fact you have lack of feeling it could be more for the dr at the hospital to sort out although the fatigue could be down to the sah it could also be down to being run down blood wise hence the suggestion to see the gp there is an old saying if you dont ask you dont get please see your gp before the hospital appt that way you should be more prepared good luck
  24. hi dawn im sorry i didnt pick up on your thread sooner well done on challangeing the report along with hubby i hope they have gone away with a flea in their ear and will reconsider their choice of actons good luck with the result sweetheart
